From what I understand, if you're upgrade-eligible anytime in 2010, you're eligible now.

Call *639# from your iPhone, and within less than a minute you'll receive a text message outlining your upgrade options.

He's talking about people who bought the 3Gs and had a expiration of their contract anytime during 2010. I don't think it applies to you.

No, activation can easily be done through iTunes by yourself or through where ever you buy it. You shouldn't have a problem with that.

True, I mean really.. the only choice I have is N1 or iPhone 4. I'll decide probably once I get the iPhone on the 24th and play around with it though it shouldn't be too much different than my current iPhone.

Yeah, I really wanted flash, but I have given up on it now. I'm usually able to watch things that I want without having to deal with flash, so I'm not having an issue with having it on my phone anymore.

I did that when it was suggested a few pages back.

This is the message I received:

I have no idea what it means but I am assuming I can get the iPhone 4 for $199 at the end of the month going off of what I saw on Apple.com and AT&T.

You're in an odd situation for whatever reason, but you should be able to get it on the 30th.

On another note, white iPhone 4's looking low according to this report.

EDIT: Update on third-party retailers for pre-ordering tomorrow via Engadget.

Sorry Pun...I guess I assumed that what they were saying meant all AT&T customers that were eligible for an upgrade in 2010. IMF is right..I do have a 3GS...I got it last year, so I am not sure why I already eligible for an upgrade...

    Any insight, IMF?

I can only imagine how heavy Apple.com will be hit tomorrow. I'm wondering what time they are taking pre-orders...

I may just visit the local Apple Store on my lunch hour. I would just rather have it shipped to me than fight the crowds on launch day.

Yeah it applies to all 3Gs consumers who bought the 3Gs last year and have an expiration date of their contract prior to December 31, 2010. Pun, on the other hand, didn't buy an iPhone 3Gs therefore, his contract stays where it's at but coincidentally is near the launch of the iPhone 4 which is good for him.

I was actually about to post on this. Nobody really has an idea of when it's exactly supposed to be released on the online AT&T and Apple store. Here are some of the predictions I found:

Man, I am hearing that if I am not a current iPhone user then I won't be eligible for $199 pricing on the 16 GB but will be eligible for $399. I've heard the exact opposite too depending on who you ask. WTF?

That would be news to me. I think it's all about them getting AT&T money for subsidizing the 'real' cost of the phone, so as long as you're not mid way through paying off the subsidizing of that phone (or another in a similar range) per an existing AT&T contract I would think you get the subsidized rate of $199.

If you have, say, a blackberry on AT&T and got it at a reduced rate upon signing a new contract, and that contract is not up, then you would not have fulfilled that obligation yet,and therefore they would refuse to subsidize this phone.

I have a BB but I didn't get it at a subsidized rate, I got it from my sis who upgraded to iPhone 3Gs earlier this year. All I did when I switched from my Sony W350 was upgraded the data plan but the customer service rep I was dealing with was adamant that this did not affect my contract in anyway.

Like I said earlier this is the message I got before when doing *639#:

It's really confusing, to me anyway. It sounds like if I want to get it before June 30 then I would pay a discounted fee ($399?) but if I waited until then or afterward I could get it for $199.

I am not calling AT&T customer service after some of the nightmares I have heard with others dealing with them on this same issue and others.

I don't understand how you wouldn't get the subsidized price. If your contract EXPIRES, that means you are eligible to upgrade to ANY AT&T phone for the FULL subsidized price and that includes all of the iPhones. I don't know who's feeding you that BS, but if your contract expires and you are eligible to sign another 2 year contract, I can guarantee you that you will get that $199 price. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Like I said, you can also try tomorrow morning on the Apple website on trying to pre-order the iPhone 4. If you get a $399 price, you're going to have to wait till the 30th, if you get a $199... you're set. There shouldn't be any other complications here besides that.

it's actually quite simple. they are moving up the upgrade eligiblity for CURRENT IPHONE customers only. everybody else has to wait for their normal dates.

So, they're updating the Apple Store now... hmm.

Apparently, it's supposed to start at 3 AM CST. Odd time.

It's officially out for pre-order now. Can't believe they're selling that crappy case for $29.

Ah, yeah. You should be fine... this thing doesn't look like it's going to sell out. There's a bunch of days between today and the 24th... there will be plenty.

Also, no white iPhone. Bummer. I got the black, but Apple handled that poorly.
