Not all glass is the same. It's like saying 'wood is soft' or 'metal is hard'. It's a silly generalization. Do you worry about smashing the glass on your watch? No. Do you think they would make a product that would shatter easily when they anticipate selling tens of millions of these things? Apple is smarter than that.
+2 more replies after I posted that! Yes! Just stating the facts. If you don't like it then you can only blame yourself.
Well at least they knew the weak point and this is going to shattered. This is better than most other ugly condom out there that cover up the whole phone.
Dude, it's a touchscreen smart phone. They all have at least one whole side that is made of glass. If you go without a case on any of them, you are playing Russian roulette with it shattering if you accidentally drop it. Get a case, or just buy insurance if you don't have butterfingers. At least with a glass on both sides, the back won't get all scratched up as easily.
Go and watch the iPhone4 video on their website... it'll tell you all about the glass. it's even oleophobic
From what I understand, you have two choices...you can either pre-order at an Apple store, or you can pre-order at Apple.com. On June 15th, you pre-pay for the phone (at either). If you pre-order in the store, you are guaranteed a phone when they drop on the 24th. If you pre-order online, they usually have it shipped (for free) to you so that you actually receive it on the 24th. This is pretty much the same thing they did when the 3GS came out. I pre-ordered mine at apple.com and received it the day it was released.
And one more thing...and this is just my opinion... When it comes to purchasing or servicing the iPhone, I never deal with anyone in the AT&T stores, or on the AT&T website. I made the mistake of trying that with the first gen iPhone when I got it, and received very sub-par service.
Same here, they don't know what the hell they're doing. I'm not someone who cares a lot about scratches, but I'd like to get my BRAND NEW iPhone unscratched when I have it for the first time. Those idiots can't even handle it with care when trying to activate it.
I have to deal with the Apple store? Do you know if they're selling it at the ATT stores? Also, is the subsidized price applicable at the Apple store? I bought my 3g from an ATT store on launch day two years ago. I know a lot of people love to just 'go' to the Apple store, but it's always packed and I'd rather not deal with Apple and their geniuses.
So when the 3Gs came out, I sold my 3 month old 3G (which was under AT&T contract) on Craigslist for the exact same price it cost me to get a new 3Gs from AT&T (~$300). Now my question is...I'm looking to upgrade again to the 4G. I have a 32GB black iPhone 3Gs in pretty good condition. Do you think the resale price will go way down on June 24th once the new 4G is out and everyone is trying to upgrade? I'm thinking about just selling it now, and using one of my non-smart phones for the next two weeks.
OK, so I know this has probably been mentioned before but I am going to ask again anyway. Being an AT&T customer for about a year and a half, would I be eligible to purchase the new iPhone at the discounted price or not?
So what are the conditions that must be met if you are an existing customer whose contract is not up?
When I sold my 3G on Craiglist (3 months into my contract) and bought the new 3Gs from AT&T, my 2-year contract restarted the day I got the 3GS. Basically, I was under contract for a total of 27 months, instead of 24 months (beginning when I bought my 3G).
Yeah but you already had an iPhone. I have a BB, so would that apply to me as well? I have a friend who just upgraded to their first iPhone a few weeks ago in their, could they possibly do it? I'm not really asking for them just trying to see the line of where existing customers can and cannot get the discounted price. Thanks for all your responses though.
They will be selling it at AT&T stores, and I'm sure you'll be able to pre-order it at AT&T stores on the 15th. And Yes, the subsidized price is available at the Apple Store, they check your AT&T account. No, because of the MicroSIM and because of the unreliability of jailbreaking/unlocking these days of 3.1.3 software, I think you shouldn't have trouble selling it for at least $400... I've gotten offers for $550 for my 32GB 3GS on craigslist. I'm about to sell mine now also. Possibly, but more than likely. You can check online though on the AT&T Wireless website on your account page. You just go to upgrade options and it should say under your number if you're available for the full iPhone upgrade price. You should be fine. But just to make sure, just call up AT&T or check online. OR even check Apple.com by entering your info on trying to buy a 3GS. If you get a subsidized price, you're in the clear.
