Interesting note: Radio Shack is even planning on selling iphone 4 and are apparently going to offer trade in money on your old iphone. 100 for a 3G 200 for a 3GS Of course, and unlocked phone goes for more money on like Ebay for example, but if you are just wanting to bypass that completely that's not too bad an offer for a retail outlet. It might be difficult to do on launch day, but when you go they will normally do the process of porting over your old number and activating the new service (and turning off your old) for you.
i have a 3GS...now i am eligible to upgrade at the 199 price even though it's only 10 months into my contract (yes ATT i see ur trick here to lock me in..but watever).. my qestion is can i add a 2nd line on my account without signing a contract so i can give my 3gs to someone and go on a month to month basis on that line?
Yes, I think so. You would change your plan to a family plan and then you could add a phone that you already have to it and just not have to sign a contract for that line.
Heck, they better have improved battery life! I have an iPhone 3G and if I'm squinting real hard, wearing more powerful reading spectacles, and browsing the web while on a trip, like I did last week, you can almost watch the battery run down. Looking at some videos just kills it. One of the things that impressed me about the iPad was the battery life, which is outstanding. With the same processor as the iPad, doubled battery life (isn't it about doubled?), and the very high resolution screen, it's enough for me to check it out. If the improved resolution doesn't improve my viewing experience, I'll probably keep what I've got. Even if I squint, the battery runs down, and the CPU is slow as molasses, at least it's paid for. I have to confess that I'm intrigued by the thing, the more I think about it. If only that terrific screen were a bit larger. (sigh)
Not exactly. From Macworld.com: "The specs on the iPhone 4 call for up to seven hours of 3G talk time, 14 hours of 2G (EDGE) talk time, 300 hours of standby, six hours of 3G Internet use, ten hours of Wi-Fi Internet use, ten hours of video playback, or 40 hours of audio playback. Just for the sake of comparison, an iPhone 3GS promises up to five hours of 3G talk time, 12 hours of 2G talk time, 300 hours of standby, five hours of 3G Internet usage, nine hours of Wi-Fi browsing, ten hours of video playback, and 30 hours of audio playback. So to summarize, iPhone 4 users can expect to talk for two more hours, browse for 1 more hour, and listen to ten more hours of music than someone using an iPhone 3GS." You have to realize that one of the big reasons the iPhone 4 even has more battery life is Apple was able to squeeze in a higher capacity battery. Frankly, battery technology is lagging behind the technological increases in phone cpus and screens. I have no doubt you will be impressed by the increase in screen resolution. I've held a Motorola Droid and an iPhone side-by-side and the clarity and crispness of the Droid was noticeably significantly better than the iPhone. And the iPhone 4's display is quite a bit better than the Droid's. You will be blown away by how well a screen with that pixel density renders text. I agree with you on the screen size though; I would've like to see even just a 0.2 inch increase in size. There is so much empty space on the top and bottom of the faceplate that they should have been able to do it.
Thanks for the reply! I have the 3G, not the 3GS. I wonder if the 3GS had a battery improvement over the 3G? Anyone know? If so, that would give me more of an improvement, relatively speaking. And thanks for the comment about the screen (glad I'm not the only one who wishes it were a little bigger). I know enough about displays to know that a higher resolution will have an positive impact on image quality. I just need to see one in person. My 24" monitor is an IPS display and I love it. Apple is making some good moves. They just need to bring it all together and hit my sweet spot.
Definitely did... actually had quite a difference... I remember the "ooh's" and "aahs" when the battery info was announced in WWDC 09 for the 3GS.
Here you go, sir. It looks like you will get a nice relative bump in battery life by jumping from the 3G to the 4. It is tough for me to say how much of an upgrade the screen res will be for any one person because everyone has different levels of eyesight. For example, I have better than 20/20 vision, so I don't have much a of problem reading text anyway. But to give you an idea of the text clarity (on a 854x480 lcd phone) through my eyes, I can read normal webpages without needing to zoom in on text. Try going into one of the sections of this forum and try to read the thread topics without needing to reformat/zoom in one the page. I doubt you can make them out, but I can on my phone.
This is the problem with iPhone 4 design. They make it totally nice looking but you're going to end up buying a fat ugly case to protect it and hide the aesthetics of the look. http://www.ifixyouri.com/blog/?p=59
Thanks for the info! I have 20-20 vision myself, due to cataract surgery (long story), my problem being middle-aged loss of close-up vision. More than a few feet away and I can see fine. It's a bit frustrating, but happens to nearly everyone, eventually.
I'm not getting it. Are they saying it cracks when you drop it? And, MOST people buy cases on their iPhones.
fat ugly case? how hard will it be for a designer to come up with an encompassing brim to put around the sides of the device. i mean, both the back and front are flat... right? why not just a brim around the sides?
He spends his free time looking up mundane reasons to hate the iPhone. He's one of the main contributors in any Apple related thread. I'm just surprised at how often he spends his time looking up stuff on something he doesn't like. Who Posted? While I like his posts on anime and pretty much anything else, I've been accustomed to ignore all of Cowboy_Bebop's posts on anything iPhone related.
Geesh, you need to shut up already. I've said both positive and negative about the iPhone or about any topics. There is a block option so feel free to use it.
