Just got the Iphone 4 advertisement in my email: Link to webpage about Iphone 4 Looks pretty cool, and I just got my 3GS dang it. DD
I've decided I'm going to upgrade to this baby... but I may end up selling it on eBay for like $1000 or more if I see it rollin for that much and then just buy a Nexus One. I'm wondering whether I should pre-order this online or if I should pre-order this to pick up at the store... does anyone know if I preorder it online that I'll get it on the 24th?
How is it that much better than the 3gs. Seriously how many people video chat? I think I text way more than I talk. I think steve jobs could peddle crap call it icrap and it would sell like hot cakes.
So some co-workers and I were looking over the new features of the phone over lunch and here's what I think : 802.11n - nice upgrade. I'm not sure I'm going to notice much difference though with the way I use it. It's not like I'm downloading huge files to take too much advantage of the speed. My 802.11g network was plenty fast for the brief surfing I did on the phone at home. But this is a good improvement. IPS screen - IPS screens are awesome screens on computer monitors. OLED screens are the holy grail on electronics. The Nokia N8 will have an AMOLED screen. The problem with OLED screens in the past has been that they don't perform too well in the sunlight. I honestly had no issues with my 3G's screen. Had this been on a full-size monitor, I would've been happy, but until I see it in person, I'll just say "cool" and am not really blown away by it. The screen's resolution should definitely be a plus. Overall, this should be a good improvement. 5 MP camera with flash - yay, it's got a flash - not sure how good it is, but they finally are catching up to the Blackberry Curve I had about 3 years ago. lol. From what I hear the camera itself should be better. The 5 MP is irrelevant to me. I'm not going to be taking any serious pics with this thing that I then crop. I think the megapixel wars among camera phones is a bit like trying to pick the prettiest ugly woman - after a while, you discover it's pointless. Front-facing camera - pretty neat, but I doubt I'll put it to use much. I can see why people would like it it, though. It's just another added feature. Definitely a legit improvement. Battery life has been improved a bit. My 3G battery life was never really that great. I don't remember what it was rated at, but I seriously doubt I got what they claimed. I know I'm charging it once or twice a day and I'm not even using 3G networks. I'll wait to see how much it's really improved in "real world" conditions before commenting. Here it is compared to the 3GS : http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-vs-iphone-3gs-the-tale-of-the-tape/ Here it is compared to some of the other heavyweights out there : http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-vs-the-smartphone-elite-evo-4g-n8-pre-plus-and-hd2/ iPhone vs. EVO : http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-vs-evo-4g-fight/ I'm still on the fence about getting one or going over to the Android. I wish a new Windows phone would drop soon. Blah. Either way, I see enough reason to actually upgrade from a 3G to a 4, but I'm unsure I will yet.
Considerably. The 3G to 3GS was a nice speed and performance bump, but this upgrade is that and significant hardware changes. I don't remember, but did the Curve have improvements for low light pics or touch/autofocus? Like you said, mp really isn't what it's all about. Gizmodo has this shot up they took from the camera, supposedly. Looks pretty good. http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/4/2010/06/photo_01.jpg http://gizmodo.com/5557622/this-is-how-the-new-iphone-4s-photos-look As far as battery life goes, Apple has actually been fairly reliable with their estimates. The iPad battery life is impressive. I don't think they would have made the multitasking and video chat additions if they weren't able to make strides in battery life.
On the computer? Millions and millions. On a cell phone? Well, its not like this was much of an option previously. Im sure the answer will be millions upon millions.
Man that phone looks badass. I really like it. I would seriously consider switching to AT&T, but I enjoy the service of Verizon (and love my droid).
Honestly AL, I really don't know...just posting what I got in email. I do like the forward facing camera though. DD

Since we were talking about cameras, I'll comment on this: pretty good quality. It's a bit grainy, but it's quite good for a cell phone camera.
I had a Curve. It's camera was terrible. That said, it had an LED flash still. Why the iPhone took so long to get one is a bit beyond me.
Actually, I mis-spoke. I actually had the Blackberry Pearl, not the Curve. The issue I have with the camera on my 3G is that its dang-near useless in low-light conditions, especially with no flash. The flash was something I had back then on my Pearl. It wasn't the greatest, but, eh. I really don't care about camera phones that much. Most of the time I take pics, it's usually just something funny that I want to send to somebody, so I'm not looking for a do-it-all camera on my phone. This is one reason why I don't care about the megapixels on the phone as long as it's around 2-3 MP or so and takes decent pics in various light levels, I'm cool with it.
Just curious, but what did I write that was incorrect? As for iPhone 4, no real surprises today, but I'll take it. My 2G iPhone seems like an old Startac next to the iPhone 4. Should be a significant upgrade for me.
My iPhone 2g is still chugging along. I have dropped it many times but it still runs. The only problem is I have pressure marks on the screen which sucks. It grows and shrinks based on heat. If it's on the table where it's cool it will grow, so I keep it in my pocket all the time now. Anyways, I am going to ride out my 2g until it dies probably.
