They screwed up. All the time I previously spent on the phone with an Apple rep conferenced in with an AT&T rep did not achieve the desired results. I'm still on the blue network and I need to be on the orange network. Apparently, the big issue with upgrading is if you are upgrading an older cell phone from the blue network. Then, none of it handles itself and the reps go through confusion on how to get me on the orange network so I can get my phone service. Damn colored networks! I'm glad I called in to AT&T...or I wouldn't get service in 48 hours. Your right...it should have been a short time to get phone service.
I'm still trying to get it sorted out. lol These reps don't know how to get me from the blue to the orange. I feel like the Neo of the iPhone. Just give me the damn pill!
I never did reserve one. My wife called AT&T, and they claimed that she needed to be present for me to be added to her account. Seeing as everything else has been wrong, I just assumed they were wrong on this too, and so I dropped by an AT&T store. Sure enough, I walked out with my new 32 GB model about an hour later (no line whatsoever.......just took a while). Of course, that was around three this afternoon, and the damn thing still doesn't work. I went back to their store around seven, and they claimed that because I was porting my number over, the "system was backed up." Of course, my old phone stopped working almost immediately. They told me to "come back in" if it still isn't working in the morning. We'll see........... I always remember this old friend's advice when I asked him what my first cell phone should be (many years ago). He said, "Robert........all cell phones suck. You just have to pick the one that sucks the least."
Sorry to hear you're having problems. My sister's phone was ported over from T-Mobile (which may be the reason) and her phone was active 90 seconds after the box was opened.
Mine was ported from T-mobile, and that's about how long it took for my old phone to stop working. Seven hours later, the new iPhone still isn't working.
What time did you get your phone? She got hers around 1 PM. I wonder if it has something to do with time? I'm reading that a lot of people are having activation problems: http://www.macrumors.com/2009/06/19/iphone-3g-s-customers-reporting-activation-delays/
I went to the Town Center ATT at 7:45... out by 8:15 without pre-order. In and out, with no wait. Why must people buy from the Apple store just for the experience of it? It's like a damn cult. I went past the Apple store in First Colony around 3PM, and there was still a line outside...
lol people wait in line for stuff all the time. Video games, phones, game consoles, etc. etc. It doesn't have much to do with a 'cult'. I mean, I wouldn't do it, but still. If I can get in and get what I want and get out without waiting in line I'd much rather do that. Although, let's be honest here; if you need anything more than that dealing with AT&T salesmen isn't always the most fun.
Well... for one... the Apple Store has a least 3 times (could be more than 3) more iPhones than an AT&T store does... secondly, if you would like to buy accessories, the Apple Store is a better place to do so, and another thing, activation process and stuff like that is just naturally done faster at the Apple store than the AT&T store. I'm not bashing on the AT&T store, but I just feel better if I get the actual phone from the Apple store. I got my 3G last year from an AT&T store, the guy honestly looked like he didn't know what he was doing trying to activate it... but yeah anyways, it's not that bad. I can probably guarantee you the Town Center AT&T didn't have an iPhones at 3 PM... most AT&T stores ran out by then. I know the Apple Store had a bunch of inventory of iPhones (especially 16 GB, which is what most ppl would buy) when I went at 9 am, he was saying there would probably be enough to handle at least all the reserve customers (which is another reason why someone would go to the Apple Store) and most of the people who are "walk in" customers.
I just got mine connected by turning mine off and then back on. I feel like an idiot for not trying that sooner. I also called AT&T support, but that is another story. AT&T quickly reminded me of how bad they have always sucked, and honestly, I had an even worse experience at the apple store.........but this phone is simply YEARS ahead of the competition.
Thanks for posting that, I was waiting to go into a store this morning to try to get mine activated but turning it off and then on worked.
It's not that... people have been getting messages about it activating in 48 hours and other error messages that they shouldn't be getting. It has nothing to do with their internet or computer. As for the phone, It's still the same for me as it was when I had my 3G... you get used to it after a while to the way that it just becomes a normal phone that'll sit around.
I wouldn't say years... Pre is pretty damn nice, once more Apps come around it should push apple for a little more innovation. ESPECIALLY when the Pre comes out for Verizon. TMobile on the other hand, G1 is nice, but it's got a ton of work to do to catch up.
