I'm gonna wait another year. I don't have an upgrade available since I've only had the phone for a few months and the 3.0 upgrade will suffice for now. Don't need the video or voice control really. Looking forward to the update.
I'm kind of torn between the 3GS and other upcoming phones. My contract with ATT ends in Oct and I've been considering giving android a go on Tmobile. I need to get rid of my current phone as it keeps dropping calls...Nokia E71 upcoming phones of interest: Sony Xperia X2 Samsung Omnia II Google G1 V2 Nokia N97
Yeah I was about to buy the Xperia X1 but coudln't wait any longer so I got the iPhone 3G. Kinda regret getting the iPhone 3G. I mean winmobile 6.5 and 7 is going to look awesome on the Xperia X1 and the X2. X2 rumor specs is pretty awesome. Some of the touchscreen GSM phones from Samsung, Sony and HTC are pretty awesome but their main problem was their terrible software winmobile 6.1. Good thing you can update it.
Just got the 3.0 software on my iPhone... it works great.... if anyone wants to install it also, let me know and I'll help you... this isn't jailbreaking the phone or anything... just installing the software from iTunes on to your iPhone.
The next device that runs a microsoft operating system that is better than a comparable product running a mac operating system that is as stable and trouble free, will be the first.
i have been using my friend's old 2g iphone and i must say... i'm impressed. this is coming from someone who thinks most apple users are pretentious, style over substance, hipsters. i still prefer the tactile feel of an actual keyboard and hate itunes. i am currently using an hp ipaq 910c with sbc shell 3.0 (a must for winmo users). i love the iphone's large screen and the intuitiveness of the apps. i also like the 3.5 mm jack but don't like the proprietary usb wire. throw in a sliding keyboard and i'll definitely consider it it. now, still no. i don't care what apple users say about how "easy" it is to type with the iphone.
I felt the same way you did about the keyboard. That's why I used a Blackberry and then later a G1. I really couldn't imagine myself using a touchscreen keyboard. But it wasn't till I used the iphone for a couple days when I realized I was just as proficient on it and it really is easy. The auto correct is pretty damn good too. I don't even worry that much about hitting the exact keys as it picks up the word I'm trying to type 99% of the time.
i've been using it for a week along side my ipaq (i have two lines) and i like keyboard better. i able to not look at the keyboard when typing cuz i can feel where the f and j keys are. i'm fairly proficient in thumb typing. the iphone's screen keys aren't that bad, but a well designed keyboard is still better.
So then maybe, just maybe... not everyone who uses an Apple product falls under that stereotype? Some folks just appreciate the positives of something like the phone after using it, much like you did. I understand what you are saying about the keyboard but I too found I became rather proficient with the touch screen. It definitely has a learning curve though, especially if you have never used a touch keyboard before.
That's why I said "most" seriously though, its just a good phone among other good phones with some short comings also. I like looking at the web with it. In fact I wrote this reply with the iPhone. But I would never consider doing things like downloading a word doc attachment and making extensive edits to it like I once did with my ipaq. Things like hold and moving the cursed with ur finger is no replacement for a hard d pad when you have to do it a dozen times... Etc. Bye the same token, safari is much better than mobile I.e.
