They need a camera for Facetime webcam, they are gonna throw in another camera on the other side because most of the other tablets have it.
I would like to throw in my complaint on all portable apple products here. They try to make them look thinner then they are by maker them ALL have a taper to the edge. Macbook Air? Taper. iPad? Taper. iPod Touch? Taper. We get it, u like it to look thin. But at some point it is just dumb. I wish my iPod Touch was just flat so it could sit on a table better and have more battery. The iPad is even worse.
Ah, so they're gonna add a mic too. The first one really needed one. *sigh* just got mine too. I hate you Jobs.

Sounds like you're compensating for a lot of things. My iPad is totally useless right now. I hardly ever use it. It's only good for my nephews who plays sh!tty games on it. My main purpose that I bought this was to surf the web but Apple decided not to cave in and give people FLASH. So screw you Steve Jobs because that was the last product I'll ever buy from them. But I'm interested to see where they go from here. I still hate their boring iOS. It's nothing but a boring place holders for apps.
I wouldn't mind owning one, but I prefer Android tablets. The Motorola Xoom is awesome, i got to play with one earlier .
Apple's marketing is vastly superior to that of any other company. They have essentially cornered the market on 'hip' consumer technology. It's really rather amazing. They're so good at it, in fact, that simply discussing an upcoming product launch becomes a communal act for people to signify their inclusion within the 'hip' consumer community. But hey, more power to them - it's not like they're preventing us from getting healthcare or paying our utility bills.

I've had this issue from the beginning. Why do tablets need cameras? It just seems so stupid to have to angle your screen correctly in order to chat through video. I own multiple Apple products, but the iPad has never interested me. If it had microsoft office on it as well as a stylus to annotate PDFs (for classes) then I'd be all over it. For now, though, I'll just take my laptop instead.
I've been waiting to buy one but wanted the facetime camera. I've had to watch everyone show off theirs at home but now I'll be the one with the new toy (New for about 6 months).
Just as an FYI - I purchased a third party stylus from Amazon.com and there is a great app called Note Taker HD that I use to annotate PDFs and to take notes in classroom settings at work... The capability is there on the iPad 1 - but of course - you have to purchase the stylus and the app... probably $25 total for both of them.
i can understand people preferring products other than apple. but to hate them the way they do is stupid. just quit worrying where other's choose to spend their money. is that so hard? i do find it amusing, however, that the haters can't see how petty they are.
if it has a front webcam i may purchase the wifi only one for my parents my dad keeps talking about buying a new computer when all he does with it is really check email and skype with my nephew. if the webcam works good then this will be a lot cheaper than getting a new mac for them. i've used the video chat on skype on my iphone4 and it works great actually a lot clearer and smoother than the webcam on my parents imac (they have a good webcam i bought them but its an older imac -6 years old now) part of the reason why they wanted a new computer
