Resistance is Futile You will be Assimilated. [so much funnier with a picture of Bill Gates as the Borg]
Actually I may be wrong about that. Microsoft may no longer own shares in Apple. I know back in the late 90's they invested about $150 million in Apple (or were forced to anyway... ). What's funny about Microsoft is that they're everywhere. People talk about their dominance in home OS's... they're beyond that. They've got a "media" version of Windows that runs home theater equipment. Branching out into all kinds of stuff is a good thing, I suppose.
That's okay b/c i'm hitting them back by donating my current crappy dell to the bill and melinda gates foundation....let them figure out what to do w/ this piece of junk now You know i just realized, the mac shouldv'e been a no-brainer for me...i just remembered yao endorses them
Wow, Faos, I did not realize you got a refurbished. Clearly there is a huge problem; I have never, ever had that big a problem with anything I ever owned, let alone a Mac. My little brother had a Taurus like that, but that just sounds awful. Have you thought about just demanding a new one? That sucks. Mac v. PC threads should be in D&D.
Well, in regards to the IT industry, it's kinda hard to dispute the facts. Perl is fast Apache is very stable ssh is secure gcc is compliant java is cross-platform and Darwin is open-source Plus, you can run MS Office apps, Mail, Netscape, Mozilla, etc.... for everyday use. And as I said before, the hardware issues have been standardized in Mac from the PC world. So, off-the-shelf is a reality for parts. With all these things going for the Mac. I just don't find the need to get into "shouting matches w/PC users" In fact, I just show them the facts and let them decide. In the past two years I just don't see "Mac suck" said very often. And if you do, they end up making themselves look silly. I mean, does "Perl suck?" Or "Apache suck?" Come on! That's like cutting off ones nose to spite ones face. Saying "Mac Suck" doesn't have the same meaning as it did 5-6 years ago.
The most amusing thing about the Mac vs PC discussions is the participants. I'd say at least 50% of the PC advocates have never given a Mac even a cursory glance, much less use one regularly. For one reason or another (usually because of the ubiquitous nature of Windows), the Apple advocates have used both platforms relatively regularly. Faos, you need to get that hardware totally replaced. Refurb or not, that's completely unacceptable. Apple's customer service is usually excellent, and they don't tend to quibble about replacing things in warranty.
Dude, you got a lemon. Seriously, get that thing replaced. Period. I think your experience is rather rare. I know lots of Mac users who don't see 1/10th of the problems in 2 years with the same machine that you've had in a month. Get it fixed and you'll be a much happier camper.
True. I haven't had as much trouble in all my years (since 87) as Faos has had in the past few months. Get apple on the phone, be polite but firm, work you way up the chain of command and let them know you believe the mac you got is a lemon and you would like it replaced. Tell them you just switched from the pc world and despite the assurances of other Mac owners that this is not the norm, you are having serious doubts. Call them over and over if need be and I'm sure they will eventually replace you mac with a new one.
i hate PCs. there is no way that I would have nearly as many problems as i've had in the last 10 years if I had an apple. on the other hand the thought of paying a premium for an apple always keeps me away.
LOL, US PC users can just stop point up and say..."scoreboard" No need to get worried about a puny 5% market share. DD
It may nit be this difficult, just tell them that you have had several repairs and it is still not like it should be. Bottom line, if you have had an issue that has had 3 repairs, they will give you a new one. Let me make one thing PERFECTLY CLEAR. Do NOT use the term LEMON. If you do you will get dismissed very quickly as a crackpot and they will stop listening. We were told several times in training that lemon laws do not apply to computers they apply to cars. Calling over and over does nothing unless you have a legitimate reason to call. Faos, I don't want to stir up bad vibes here but if you could can you answer the following questions for me, they will help me determine what your legitimate chances of getting a new Mac are. (I'm sorry I know you have probably gone over these before...) 1. Have you called tech support or taken it in to the Apple Store? If so was it found to be a hardware issue that required repair? 2. If so, how many repairs has it had? Were they for the same issue? 3. How old is the machine and did the issues start while the unit was still under warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan?
