With a netbook, iPad, laptop, etc... I want physical keys... This thing would drive me nuts. And the screen just screams, "I scratch easy" when you want to place it in and out of bags, drawers, etc.
The fact is, even if it is just a big iPhone/iPod Touch andjust a color Kindle...that's HUGE. The Kindle is CRAP and people will realize this soon enough. So at the VERY LEAST, this is merging two highly in-demand products in one -- iPhone and Kindle -- but has improved the browsing experience. On top of that, this WILL single-handedly affect the evolution of newspapers, magazine, and textbooks. Battery life is the main issue (I hope it comes with a wireless power coil).
Except the screen of a Kindle is completely different than the backlit LCD of an iPhone or "iPad". I can't imagine reading a book on that kind of screen. Perhaps on a Kindle/Nook/etc, but not this. What can this do that a regular laptop cannot? I can sure name a TON of things a laptop can do that this can't. Yeah, no. The Kindle/Nook has already done that and gotten the idea out -- the iPad is doing nothing more than trying to capitalize on already existing ideas, and probably doing it worse (again, see the screen issue I brought up).
Screen is the same size as the Kindle DX (9.7 inches). Of course more expensive -- it does 100x more than a Kindle. ============= 10 hours of battery life...WOW (if true).
Hmm, you make a good point in regards to the Kindle. I guess it all depends on the price. I can see people who are always on the go finding this less cumbersome than a laptop. For instance waiting in lines, long commutes on public transportation, etc. Still feel like it's a pretty small subset of people though, and the price would need to be significantly lower than a laptop.
only if priced and sized appropriately. The e-book revolution requires something not too expensive, and small enough to be portable yet big enough to be clear to see and read.
Doing it worse? You cannot say that until you have used the device. The Kindle is CRAP. The low-res screen is indeed great for reading text, but it's CRAP. This device is Apple branded -- meaning they are indeed that much better at creating hype and "changing the world." Obviously they weren't the first (they weren't the first to debut a music device or touch screen phone either), but they have the power to affect dying industries. Don't be oblivious to that fact.
I have the smaller Kindle, that's why it looks so big to me. Most people buy the smaller Kindle, the size does make a difference in portability. Also, isn't the point of the screen type of the Kindle so that your eyes don't get tired?
10hrs of APPLE battery life..apple also claims 5hrs of 3g talk time on the iphone.. real world battery life will be much much less.
The screen is everything. Without it, reading will be unpleasant for long periods of time. Hence, I would never want to read a book on an iPad, just like I'd never want to on a computer. That's the point of a Kindle/Nook/etc. Okay, I can't argue with devout fanboys. It's a meaningless endeavor.
