Disappointing that it isn't full Mac OSX and that you need a docking station to have some kind of PC monitor out. Full Mac OSX and an hdmi port would have sealed the deal for me.
Maybe people will start realizing that blind loyalty to a brand will result in the company making crap products like this
Multi tasking will surely come very soon on the device. It's been heavily rumored that multitasking would be introduced in iPhone OS 4.0, which was supposed to be announced today as well.
Why get it? I don't see it as more than a waste of money. It's an iPod Touch for old people or people who have too much money. I'm very disappointed, I was hoping apple would bring something more revolutionary to the table.....
I think more than anything else...Apple released a tablet machine that compete with the other tablet machines. I think hardware-wise...the iPad is definitely lacking. Camera, 3G frequency, lack of output capabilities... But the selling point is the software. This thing is for people who only have netbooks at home. This is not a desktop or laptop replacement. It makes casual computer use more portable. Its for people who only do one thing at a time when they are on a computer. I personally dont see why you need an iPad if you already own an iPhone or iPod Touch. But if you have a desktop only, then i think the iPad fits perfectly into your hands as being that device that you can carry around easily and have with you when you are watching tv/sports. Something to check your email on a casual basis. Something that keeps you from running into your computer room or to your computer table to do anything on the interwebs. With all that said...i wont be getting one. Until Apple spices it up and adds a bit more hardware to go along with the awesome software...the iPad doesnt really fit into my lifestyle (currently own a laptop + iPhone).
You could say the same thing about netbooks. This is obviously aimed at those same people who need/want a secondary computer for lightweight tasks. It's a matter of pros and cons amongst the two. Multitasking, hardware keyboard, huge storage? Probably not for you. Strictly for web browsing, playing media, and a few select apps? It might be worth a look. People may not like the idea of web surfing for a few hours on their iPhone, but on this it might be natural. I wouldn't call it a rut just because they can't duplicate the iPod and iPhone - two markets Apple was new to, and totally revolutionized them. That's incredibly hard to follow up. And what other company has done that besides Google? It doesn't mean they're all resting on their laurels too.
What software? iPhone apps on a bigger screen? Is that what people are orgasming about? I mean ... you can't even stream Pandora while browsing the web. Now if the iPad were running WebOS, then perhaps we could talk about the selling point being the "software". $500 for an iPod Goliath edition.... lol. And the sad part is people are going to eat this up.
Dude...thats exactly my point....its an iPod Goliath for people who dont have an iPod. Have you ever used one of those tablet PCs that are basically a laptop with a swiveling screen that you can use a stylus on...Well the iPad makes that better. Thats is all. I think you along with many others got WAY too hyped about the iPad. I know i did. And it definitely didnt deliver.
I can see my wife getting one as a portable web surfing device around the house. She uses her Iphone for this currently. I would imagine the IPad would also be good for things like recipes, too. I don't see the device as revolutionary, but it's hard to call it a flop at the moment.
This is my point as well. i am ok with using my iPhone for that purpose and dont think its necessary to get an iPad but other might feels otherwise. I think the people who want it to be a hardcore computing machine really need a good laptop and not some weak tablet.
My wife, who has been looking at netbooks, is eager to get this device. She is not a power user and has very specific use cases that must be met: email, calendaring, browsing web, ebook reading, word processing, media consumption. The included apps plus iWork (and presumably Bento) take care of her mobile computing needs on a screen more readable than her iPod Touch. As for multitasking, as long as apps save their state and itunes runs in the background, she gets the illusion of multitasking by being able to pick up where she left off.
Yeah, no music while doing other stuff is pretty bad. I don't know why they're so resistant to multitasking.
maybe battery life? and for those that are saying it's missing features like the camera...dont u think they are saving it for the next edition? next year: "the ipad u love..now includes A CAMERA!" *applause from the crowd*
You can listen to music, you just can't use the pandora app. The iphone does multitasks. It just selectly does it.
I see a lot of complaints about cracking the glass on that thing. I want them to announce the new iphone already
