Why do you think I'm defending the product? I've attacked it numerous times for its shortcomings, exactly the reason why I wouldn't buy the product.

I know you have the right to complain, it just seems that you complain about every little flaw that Apple creates with their products, at least that's how I always see it from you. Do you really expect Apple to not use iTunes for their products? It's just the way it is with Apple, that's probably not going to change.

Let me rephrase my question. What makes this better than a netbook?

Other devices are smaller, more portable, etc. There must be some reasonable justification to buy it, right?

It just seems as if they took their smaller devices and made them bigger, forgetting the reason people buy those devices (small size).

It really depends on your preference. The app store is available... but you're not going to be able to multi-task. You can do more with a netbook.

There really isn't a justification because there's really no flash or multitasking which, at least for me, is really vital when you're getting a netbook. Without those two features, you really can't compare it to a netbook.

That's pretty much what they did, made an iPod Touch into a bigger size with a few extra features.

USB stick? So tell me how a USB stick help me transferred files onto an iPhone or an iPad? Do me a favor and take your iPhone to a friend place and sync it up on his computer and try copying files onto it.

Wow, so it's ok for you to complain about the Apple products but no one else suppose to? I'm a big geek when it come to gadgets and I will always give my reasons for a lackluster products that's mean all kind or brand from Sony to Apple, Windows to Android and ect. I have said it before and I'll say it again. Apple touchscreen and their OS software for their phone and now ported onto their iPad are by far the best but it's end there for me.

You make me sound like an Apple hater but they deserve my negative rant. I'm not the only one that was looking forward to their new iPad or their new iPhone 3Gs. Instead of delivering the product that people wants, they screw them over because of greed. It's like watching a movie and it had so much potential to be good or great but the plot, ending, actors ect suck. That's how I felt about their products.

Hater? I don't hate when I see or know a good products. This is not the product that will work for me. I can see I have some use for the iPad but it's the thing that I can't do on it is the biggest drawback.

I don't visit Apple threads often, but I see enough to see how Cowboy Bebop ruins them just by posting.

Yet there are laptops more powerful than this that cost about the same or less. Hmm... ;) I think the form factor is a plus for people that want to conveniently look things up without having to drag out their laptops.

I'm waiting for variants with hopefully real operating systems to see if it can be useful. This thing, as is, looks like a big iPod Touch, which I have no use for since I already have an iPhone. The fact it can be used as an e-reader is a plus. I'll wait to see what initial reviews are, but like I said, this form factor with a decent OS would be awesome. HP's Slate is scheduled to be released around June, I think.

I think they claim it fills a "need" between laptops and netbooks that the iPhone/iPod Touch/other smartphones can't.

Lol, yeah ok. I'm sorry dude, but some people like to spend their money wisely like taking care of paying for their house and looking after their family.

Typical fanboys reaction when someone else doesn't agreed about a product. I guessed you need to be rich and cool to be able to own an Apple products like yourself.

It's lighter, thinner and easier to carry around than a netbook. For surfing the Net, checking email, Facebook, watching TV, etc, the experience may be superior to netbooks. If productivity is important, the iPad is clearly inferior to netbooks. But many (probably most) netbook users don't use them for productivity.

Being able to use your fingers is very underrated. Makes for a much easier and enjoyable experience as compared to a mouse, or touchpad. Multitouch is awesome.

That's good. If you don't have extra money, family first. But that doesn't mean that the product is bad and useless.

ahh, ok. So, it's more of a personal preference thing than a need. Where as the weight and operational differences may be insignificant to me (I'm perfectly comfortable carrying my 'huge' laptop), I can see how it would be an issue for others.

    Here's someone who gets it.

We used to get up from the couch and walk to the room to check something on our desktops. Now we crack open our laptops on the couch. The next step?

Now you have a consumer device that boots up in seconds, check the weather, do some tasks, etc. I'd love this for the living room. Surf the web, maybe play a game during commercial break, or even watch another show while the wife watches something on the TV. Most stuff I will need little typing for.

If I need to do work or music production, I'll go to the laptop or desktop. And in that case I probably don't want to do it on the couch anyways.

It's not better than a netbook, laptop or desktop. It's not going to replace them. But I think it's another step of Bill Gates vision, making a computer a consumer device. Not a work machine or a gadget for geeks.

My dad, who is the least technologically inclined person I know, just asked me to explain what the deal was with the iPad to him.

Maybe Apple's "go after the layman" strategy is working afterall...
