I bet the working conditions in Foxconn and other multinational factories are better than the small factories that already exists in those countries, companies are not building factories in developing nations because they like to improve the living standard of the people in those countries. They are there to make money, as much as they can legally. It takes time and effort and money to improve these things over time. US did not become what it is today over night.
HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE American: Earns $10 an hour Indonesian: Earns $1 an hour Apple ships some jobs out of USA and forces Americans to accept lower wage but increases wage for Indonesian since both workers do the same quality with same skills. American: Earns $9 an hour Indonesian: Earns $2 an hour American just lost 10% buying power and works 10% less harder but just hard enough to not fall to $8/hour. Meanwhile, the Indonesian just gained 100% buying power and now works twice as hard to show he/she is deserving of $3/hour. What Apple is doing is the story of new millenium America. Globalism is leveling the playing field and we're the victims while others are beneficiaries. This is what happens when you play a zero sum game. The short term result? American: Blames a black president, illegal mexicans, LBGT community, and athiests for the "loss of the American Dream" and ignorantly votes for the alternative presidential candidate thinking they will do better. Indonesian: Considers buying a new Ford Fusion to celebrate the increase in their overall quality of life.
We have welfare. The state provides food stamps, child care tuition, etc. Are you really trying to compare US poverty to the poverty that's prevalent in third world countries?
When any other American company ships out jobs overseas, they are unamerican and should be taxed to the hilt. When Apple does it, they are considered hero's for improving work conditions in third world countries. $10 hour = 20k a year $xx hour = $1200 a year ($100 a month) xx= $.60 a hour. Feel free to check the Cost of Living calculator. http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Indonesia I don't think very many of them will be going out and celebrating their new job with buying a new Ford Fusion.
I only buy phone products made in South Korea or wherever Samsung makes their phones. Spoiler I bet they make some of their stuff in China
Out of curiosity, are you just going after what you see as hypocrisy, or do you believe that measures should be taken against international sweatshop labor, e.g., more punitive tariffs, an international minimum wage, stuff like that?
