The Lofts at Las Colinas isn't bad.
I don't get those who aren't recommending Las Colinas. Yeah it's not bar filled but it doesn't take an hour to get from Las Colinas to Uptown. On either highway.
If you aren't cool with the prices of the Uptown apts you find then do check out Las Colinas.
I don't give two sh!ts about nightlife so I lived in Las Colinas and don't live too far away from there right now.
There's actually some decent places not exactly in Uptown but about 5 mins from Love Field off Inwood road and Lovers Lane. I'll try to find the name of the one I know.

Las Colinas has some nice apartments, but theres really nothing else there..it was Dallas' attempt at making a Hip new side of town about 20yrs ago and it failed miserably when they got an ego about their film market, tried to monopolize the soundstage and equipment rental business and subsequently drove all the customers to Austin.

Addison is nice, but may be a drive in rush hour traffic - I agree with RRJ in that I'd start out in the village. The lofts near deep ellum are pricey and deep ellum has gone downhill since its heyday in the early 90's. As far as nightlife - I can't tell you much about Dallas, only FT worth - Dallas is RRJ's territory. If you want to get out a lot, the village is centrally located to a lot. If your only looking for the weekends, I'd personally live a little farther away from town.. like Grapevine..but I'm old and married with two kids.

But Las Colinas would be in between his job and GV? He could get to work quickly yet would be just down the road from GV.

Can't disagree..I just like the small town feel of old town grapevine - much more creature comforts close to home than in Las Colinas.

If you're in your twenties or early thirties, I'd definitely recommend Uptown. Like previous posters mentioned, there are tons of bars to meet people (mainly yuppies). There's a ton of development underway in the uptown/downtown area (ex.- perot museum, the park over woodall rodgers) so this scene should only improve in the years to come. It can be a bit pricey but that's the cost of living where so many amenities are available. It's the same situation in other urban cities such as Chicago or New York.

St. Anne's is a great new restaurant/bar that opened earlier this year. I work in the Amegy building right next to it and they have awesome happy hours with an unbelievable patio. Christie's is a great sports bar on McKinney. Other popular spots include TABC and Nodding Donkey.

In regards to specific apartments, I've heard good things about the Trianon and the Amli. The Glass House high rise is cool too but way over priced.
