I think this is the way it works .. I'm not positive though. Players can't double-dip. Finley is owed 51 million by the Mavs. So say if Finley signs with Miami for the MLE, this money goes to the Mavs, meaning the Mavs owe Finley 46 million. However they can spread it out and defer the money as they see please. But Finley signing for the MLE in Miami compared to signing for the LLE in Houston means he gets more money up front.
All things being equal, that's A LOT of money, even for a dude who has A LOT of money. Actually, particularly to a dude that has A LOT of money. Finley will likely sign with the Heat - that's cost prohibitive from both he and (I'm certainly sure the vocal one is) his agent's perspective.
MLECBALLECBAMLECBALLE MAKE THADEUS HEAD GO OWIE OWIE. Okay, so with that being said - it would be totally sweet if we got Finley.
I think either of the two teams have greater chances of winning a championship than us. Finley coming to Houston is never gonna happen.
FINALLY, someone else mentions what the LLE is actually worth. I posted this amount in two other threads but EVERYONE did a really good job ignoring it. Kept talking about DA or Spree signing for about 4M at the LLE. I thought this was wrong, so I posted, and got ignored. Haha! So could someone give a definitive answer? I don't know how to figure out/where to find out exactly what the LLE is worth, but I was under the impression that it was 1.67M as micah1j mentioned. Any concrete evidence of exactly what the LLE is worth??
Cuban has made this more than the differential between an adjusted MLE versus an adjusted LLE - which I believe is only about a million dollars difference after the off-set (show you a calculation? don't get me lying as I haven't studied how to calculate it, i'm working from hearsay). cuban's advance payment of the deferred monies owed Finley results in about $5M difference. So, the difference of $1M and the $5M difference based on timing of the payout, causes ABOUT (and I'd say at least) a $6M difference. That's enough money for Fin to find a home in the EC - IMHO.
Keep on dreaming, it was later reported that he is narrowing it to the Heat and Pistons, I believe that I read that Cuban offered to pay his salary up front if he agreed to go to an east coast team I think that this played heavily into his decision because as of this morning I have not seen any west coast mentioned as much as those two. Pretty much the only thing we can offer is the starting job, but on our roster I'm not sure that means the majority of minutes since we all know that Van Gundy will not hesitate to pull someone dogging it on defense. As much as I hate to say it looks as if Spree is going to be the best fit, followed by Anderson if he decides to go with a winner.
