i think the starting spot is pretty crucial to Finley. He would only play second banana to Wade in Miami, Rip in Detroit, Manu in SA at the 2 guard. The only other team besides the Rockets that can offer him a starting spot that is still a contender is Phoenix. If Finley wants to take a "paycut" (he is STILL getting paid by dallas), I think Houston wouldn't be too bad of a choice.
Thats a very good point. If that is the case which i think it is then it would come down to Houston and Miami. Both teams could offer him a starting spot. Miami could offer him a little more money. We would be closer to his home. Both have a chance to go all the way. The one thing that may swing things our way is he'd have to think that he'd get less opportunites to shoot the ball playing with Antoine Walker, Wade, and Shaq.
If we landed Finley at the LLE...could we get DA at the vet exception? (I'm not a capologist - much too lazy to be). Perhaps it's possible if we land Finley at the LLE, on top of what we already have, to get DA on the REAL cheap given his interest in the Rox. Could we start this line-up? DA/BS/LH MF/DW/JB TM/MF SS/JH/RB YM/DM That's 13. Talk about a coup. And they'd both be getting paid anyway... This could shake out and rival big offseasons of late like the Lakers when they landed Malone and Payton or when Minny added to their team Spree, cassell, olowakandi....both came out of nowhere. Let's just hope that we are able to put it together better than those teams and win a championship (or maybe a couple...or four).
I heard last night on AM radio that Mark Cuban is trying to entice Finley to go to the Eastern Conference. Apparently Cuban promised to pay Finley the $51 million quicker if he goes to the East. If he goes to the West, Cuban will spread out the payments over time.
Exactly! Imagine how Cuban would feel if we knock the Mavs out of the playoffs and he still has to pay Finley.
No he's right. Has been explained here http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=100519 Basically Fin gets to keep half of whatever his new team can pay him until 2008 as additional. So between MLE and LLE, it's about 1.5 to 2 mil different for him, not 4 mil. But 2 mil less for 3 years is still a lot if all teams are equal.
Couldnt be worse than paying the "second best center" in the league while getting kicked out off playoffs by a ex-Mavs guard whose playing style did not warrant Dampier-like contract.
Well, in that case, Spurs might fit the bill better. Fin is going to have starting job there. Ron Mercer and that 35sec miracle Brown kid had spurs starting job last year. Besides Manu and Bowen, Spurs are pretty thing for the 2 and 3 spot. I just dont see how we can beat out heat, piston, spurs if Fin wants to win it all and probably money too. I am just being honest here. I sure wish we could have him. DA and Spree is our best chance. I have an odd feeling that Fin will end up in Detriot and Spree plays for us next year.
Les should then buy the (slowed) annuity from Finley and pay him his payments in advance of the scheduled payout. It's just business. Leave it to Cuban...I can't wait until Fin goes off on the Mavwussies.
Hearing all this hype, I am actually starting to get hopefull that this may pan out for us. Finley at SG for the Rox- scary good. We are instantly in the top 4 in the league, instead of the top 6 or so. We may even be able to win the division! J
I just like knowing that Rockets management is not sitting on their laurels after signing Swift and are ACTIVELY pursuing angles to improve the team -- despite only having the LLE available. It's almost like JVG reinvigorated CD in addition to Deke and Barry! CD is on the move!
You're thinking two years ago. Ginobili started 74 of 74 last year and Bowen 82 of 82. There's not a starting spot for him there.
