RM95..you seriously need to go to law school!!! You're arguing semantics like crazy....the implications were clear, particularly when followed up by his agent's statements that if McGrady gets to choose where he wants to go, so should Steve.
That's funny because I beleive this whole argument is about semantics. He never said would, he said want. You may think I'm arguing semantics, I obviously disagree. I've got the wording and the fact that he never threatened to sit out if he ended up on the Magic on my side.
NEWMAN:"Well, you've both presented very convincing arguments. On the one hand, CD, your promise was given in haste. But was it not still a promise? Hmm? Francis looks at CD, thinking his arguments have put him one up. NEWMAN: And, Steve, you did provide a service in exchange for compensation. But, does the fee, once paid, not entitle the buyer to some assurance of reliability? Hmm? Huh? Ahh. These were not easy questions to answer.
I think the problem is that most of those repercussions are not directed at the player, but at the people who depend on the player. i.e. they don't hurt him directly, so they're effectively not repercussions for him. The one repercussion that does affect Steve (#3), seems to get overruled by his emotions at times, which is a normal human response, I'd say. (but you're right, it probably is why he's done the 180).
I think RM and Max need to go play a game of one-on-one dodgeball. Followed by a round of Shiner and a box of Frenchy's of course!
it's all good...believe me. this is not the first thing we've disagreed about, and it won't be the last. but he's a friend, nevertheless. that's far more important than his misguided feelings about steve francis!
dude.. the orlando GM has totally ruined the excitement in this trade. We all know its going down, but a matter of when. Now when it happens, none of us will be as excited as to when we first found out. damnit wiseguy, err.. weisbord.. you a$$
Actually it's the BYC status thing that ruined it more than anything. If not for that I bet it would have been done by Monday, before Steve or his agent had a chance to open their big mouths.
Steve Francis: Stages of Grief 1. Denial (I'm the Franchise, they didn't just trade me!) 2. Anger (I'm not going to play there, they're rebuilding!) 3. Bargaining (I'll go there if Shaq goes there! Or else trade me to another team!) 4. Depression (I thought we were building something here!) 5. Acceptance ( OK, I'll go)
Perhaps we should cut Steve in half and give one half to the Magic and keep the other half for ourselves... mu wah ha ha... hello, newman
i think he is agreeing to go there because they told him they will be trading him to either the wiz or the sonics and he is 'ok' with those teams.
Yes the initial reaction and handling that way in public was a problem that I had with Steve's dealing with the situation. I do think the proportion of names and accusations some people heaped on Steve, was not proportionate to the level of his mistake though. Most of his pubic comments were ok, but I still think he was wrong, not to wait before talking about a change and a third team and all of that. I feel the same with people that immediately beleived Steve was all bad, and the only reason that the deal wasn't already done, and began name calling, bashing, saying he's worse than Pippen, or Karl Malone etc., while everything was still in a tentative/rumor stage. If people waited for the facts to come in and then Steve had really spoiled the trade, then I would have been among the most ardent in my anger at Steve. Steve made an emotional knee jerk reaction without having explored the facts and reality of the situation. Many fans did the exact same thing.
