What reprocussions? Will he not be paid? There are no reprocussions to speaking his mind, and he knows it. DD
and by the way, RM95...i keep hearing in your arguments that he has the right to be upset...that we'd all be upset, etc. but are you seriously defending the "i'll only play for orlando if shaq goes there too" statements??? seriously???
He has a right to voice his displeasure about the trade. You can argue all you want about his unprofessionalism, etc., but you can't argue that he doesn't have the right to say he doesn't want to go to Orlando.
sure there are...p.r. hits. and he's taking them. and he's taken them. wanna play for an olympic team?? want an invitiation? don't create the image to the rest of the league that you're a cry-baby. that if you dont get what you want you'll just take your ball and go home.
The reprocussions hit both Steve (his reputation) and his employer (either the Magic or Rockets). If there were no reprocussions in Steve's mind, then he wouldn't have done a 180 the last 2 days.
I don't like it, but there is nothing that says he can't do it. If I was in his position, didn't want to go to the worst team in the league last year, there's a good chance I'd try to manipulate it to where I'd go somewhere else. I can freely admit that.
where have i said that, though? i've said time and time again that of course he has the right to do that. da da talked about freedom of speech above...and my response was directly about that. of course he does. the right he was asserting, however..the right that he would get to pick which team he played for while already under contract...yeah, he doesn't have that right.
Those are only minor.... I get that you guys think he should be a good soldier and do what is asked of him because he signed a large contract. Fine, I think he still has a right to voice his opinion. No biggie, let's bring on Tmac and move on. DD
whatever...we just disagree on this. i believe when you sign a contract, you live to it. your word is only as good as you make it out to be. you can accept things like a man...or you can pout and make a power play outside of the agreement you signed. i prefer the mobley/dotel approach, frankly.
come on. my thoughts on this have been crystal clear, rm. you know that. and if they weren't, i clarified them in the response you chose to quote this out of. you know exactly what i mean. you know exactly what i'm talking about. here's the rest of that post: i've said time and time again that of course he has the right to do that. da da talked about freedom of speech above...and my response was directly about that. of course he does. the right he was asserting, however..the right that he would get to pick which team he played for while already under contract...yeah, he doesn't have that right.
Where did he say he wasn't going to play out his contract? Where did he flatly say he refused to go to Orlando? Of course, Dotel probably wouldn't be so happy about the trade if he was on his way to Pittsburgh or Montreal right now. Mobley knows no one cares what he thinks. Secondly, he probably saw the reaction to Steve's comments and decided to keep his mouth shut, which, I can fully admit, is what Francis should've done.
Minor?? HOw do you figure?? 1st reprocussion - The Rockets lose out 2nd reprocussion - THe Magic lose out 3rd reprocussion - Steve's image takes a severe blow 4th reprocusion - Steve's value, as a tradeable asset is lessened Absolutely. Because he would be living up to the terms of the contract that he signed. Thats what a contract is, and thats what its about. He has the right to say it, he doesn't have the right to try and enforce it. So why say it?? Hes only hurting himself, his current team and his prospective team.
he said it to berman on Fox....you know that, right? i think we may be done arguing here. this is getting kinda tired.
He said want, not would. He didn't say "the only way I'm going to Orlando is if Shaq is there", he said that the only he'd want. Huge difference.
See, that's more Pippen than Francis. But Pippen must be estatic that he's not at the top of the ex-Rocket enemy list anymore!
He didn't say he wouldn't play out his contract. He said the Shaq thing and then said he wasn't even looking at that right now(playing in Orlando). I think he knows he won't get paid if he sits out.
it just seems like we're having 2 entirely different arguments. people are saying, "he has a right to be upset, etc." which i don't dispute...i would be upset, too. i don't dispute that. it's like arguing on two different levels entirely....what i'm disappointed with in Steve is entirely different than what everyone is talking about, it seems. when we start bringing in the constitution, i usually exit stage left. the freedom of speech thing is such a non-starter.
