well i hope for our teams sake he's a card shark....but he could also be that guy in Ocean's Eleven....'read them and weep....ALL REDS!'
I tend to think CD is really good at what he does. You never really know which direction he is headed but once he's there most of us are happy. I guess we'll need to have some faith that everything will be ok.
That's just plan mean. The man has spent a long time with the Rockets. Without him, we would have not won two championships, nor would we have SF or EG for that matter. If you want to criticize his job that's fine but insulting his appearance is wrong.
Just to be a little fair here in response to the "why aren't we even interviewing Carlisle" posts.. 1. We may not be interviewing him because he's already decided to go to Portland. He has ties there (mentioned in another thread). How crappy would it look if we got jilted by not only our first choice, but our second as well? 2. We may still be planning to interview him. I haven't seen any articles where anyone from the organization says "we're not interested." I don't know what to think about this any more. I can't wait until things start happening so we can dispense with all the conjecturing. Wasn't there a feeling that we'd be ok with basically any one of the top 3 or 4 candidates ( before) carlisle became available? What happened to that? 2 of the 4 are still out there, right?
I guess Rudy wasn't buddies with some Rocket high rollers, decent, and a company guy? So Les pushes out one 'company guy' for another? That's your theory? Was Rudy a big wave-maker?
lol.....that's what I asked some time ago.... I guess he did some kind of stock trading... or inherited it. Lucky guy....
I am surprised some here have any high hope for CD, he is just another yesman hand picked by rudy. Rox will be 40-50 wins team for at least next five years.
The rockets are the biggest no comment organization in the league, Les is the only one with some balls. Hey Lebron was about to get $75 million from Reebok until Nike intervened and offered $90 million. My point is if Larry Brown is about to sign pick up the phone and stop digging in your ear, and get the best teacher in the game hear. If he is gone offer Carlise a nice deal and get the second best coach out their. Hey Silas won't sign with Cleveland until tommorow. Do something about you laid back jerk. MD had a bunch of talent everywhere he coached, not sure what he could have done the same Brown did in Philly or Carlise did in Detroit. Gundy is know for a tough team, but if you have Ewing, Oakley, Larry Johnson, Anthony Mason, Sprewell, a bunch of thugs way before they knew nerdy Van Gundy doesn't mean he can turn Mo Taylor, or Eddie Griffin, or Cato into those type of players. The Rockets need to get off of their A$$, because willn't renew by season tickets for some puppet as a head coach. Its' time for someone to say hey Cuttino you take one more bad shot you will sit next to me, and Juaquin will have your job, Steve stop all that hopping and skipping and get ball down low to the 7'6 guy, Moochie get a hair cut and stop coming like you're at the courts, and move the damn ball. Yao you curse the guards out if they don't pass you ball, if you don't average 23 points a game, you're not being dominant.
I think it's a bad idea not to at least interview Carlisle. Even if they decide they don't want him. As far as him having trouble getting along with people, I'm not so sure that isn't a hatchet job by the Pistons so they don't look so bad not firing the coach who's done, possibly the best job in the league the past two years. ACtually the truth probably lies somewhere in between. Either way I think the Rockets should talk to the guy. I'm not convinced that Mike D is just someone who won't make waves. His enthusiasm which has been shown in various other threads makes me think he would try hard to do the right thing for the team, and it's players. I think when someone has that kind of passion, it leads to trying things, and a vision. He may not try the right things or be able to attain what he wants, but I don't see him having all that passion, and just coming in here and the keeping things as they were.
cant you guys figure out anything? sheesh,im a newbie and I even figured out whats going on. CD is waiting for DOn nelson to come back from vacation, and will hire him. search for coach is over. Don is Mings "dad". China likes him. He would be a BIG name. Just what the Doc ordered.
Yao only fan..... Fine. Maybe you are right. That would be great.....ecstatic. Or Pat Riley....or Phil Jackson....or Gregg Poppovich... Or Rick Adelman...
If Brown is indeed signed, sealed and delivered, then the Rockets need to seriously "get on the ball". I think perhaps Les got a little smug considering every coaching candidate was saying the Rockets' vacancy was the best one available, and then slid in the Pistons to get him, its called immediate action. Something Les and CD failed to do. IMO Brown was the best available candidate to succeed Rudy Tomjanovich. With the recent firing of Carlisle, this puts the Rockets in a great position, interview a young head coach who guided an average team to back-to-back fifty win seasons. But are they really going to wait around to let him get signed by another team? I guess that remains to be seen. Has anyone thought about Alex English, Clyde Drexler, Mo Cheeks or Sam Vincent? I understand the enamoration of hiring a big name and making a so-called "big splash". But what about hiring a guy to come in and change things up a little? Maybe a head coach who needs to be given a chance. Everyone needs to get their break sometimes, and Carlisle is a prime example of this situation. Maybe looking where no one else is might be the thing the Rockets need to do to fill the coaching vacancy. One thing is for sure, I hope the Rockets aren't sitting on their hands thinking that their's is the premier position, because it looks like they already made that mistake with Brown, lets not make the same mistake again.
I just hope that CD is using his brain and not his big ole Texan heart in his decision. There is a time to be nice and careful and there is a time to be decisive. If they hire Dunleavy just because he came across with the best interview....if Dunleavy threw lap dancers at CD and Les and said, "So, where do I sign...?" If we hire Dunleavy, let it be because we know he can actually coach, hoping he was a mismatch at Portland (head cases) and Milwaukee. Of course Les is gonna pay the coach and has the last say on who we hire. Doesn't he?
We all know what happened to Rudy. And I'm not sure where youre coming from here but I totally agree with MacBeth: Dunleavy has very strong ties to Rudy and CD. I'd rather nothing that happenned to Rudy last season had ocurred, but it did. But now that it has, I want change. And so should Les Alexander (who's really showing me how clueless he is). CD, I'm sure, is fine with Brown not coming here and I'm not knocking him for it. But there were reports that came out that the Rockets weren't really that thrilled with JVG (despite what they said publically) and that the Silas interview hadn't gone well. I believe CD identified his man, and Les doesn't really know why he got rid of Rudy - except for the fact that most coaches often get fired in those situations. Mike doesn't have to worry about Rudy looking over his shoulder - he's more likely to call him and ask "What the ***ks up with whoozit?" We're not getting a mirror image of Rudy with Dunleavy - Dunleavy is a stronger X and O guy - but you're just getting another brother in the same family. If Rudy was the problem, then you really need somebody that's not likely to kick off his shoes in the GM's office. Les has flunked his first test. I'm grateful I always liked 'ol Mike.
