(Houston-AP) -- San Diego Chargers rookie Terrence Kiel is
recovering today after being shot during an attempted carjacking at
a southwest Houston mall parking lot.

Police say Kiel, who played at Texas A-and-M, was in his 1983
Buick Park Avenue at Sharpstown Mall yesterday when he was
approached by a man in his late teens or early 20s.
Police say the unidentified suspec said something to Kiel and
shot at time several times, striking him in the abdomen and leg.
Kiel was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was in
    stable condition today.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and later got into a vehicle
and drove away. Kiel was drafted in the second round by San Diego in April's N-F-L draft.

Damn, that's terrible news. Sharpstown Mall is getting worse and worse every day. Hopefully Kiel is okay, and will be able to play this fall.

You've got to pull for anybody who drives a 1983 Buick Park Avenue. Hope he gets well.

Dude, never have any sympathy for anyone who goes to Sharpstown Mall, or T-Town, or cruises Richmond or the Alief area, etc. and gets into trouble...

I mean, in the last few months there have been like 6-8 people shot right outside T-Town, yet people still go there.

    They're called idiots.

I heard on Fox26 or Wb39 that he is expected to make training camp. So that's good news.

Yeah, you guys are right, Alief has such a good reputation...
There's not much gang activity there, right?
    What was I thinking?

At least no one is defending T-Town & the Richmond strip as nice safe areas to roll in...

Yeah, what were you thinking stereotyping an entire area as gangbanger territory?

Don't ever drive on Richmond near Kirkwood...you might get carjacked.

OK, OK, I did exaggerate - most of Alief, espec the portions west of Kirkwood, are nice. In fact, I grew up and now live on the edge of Alief.

However, there are certain parts of Alief - the "VC gang" territory off of Bissonett, for example - that are WIDELY known to be some of the worst gang infested areas of the city.

As far as Richmond though, the strip between Chimney Rock & Gessner has to be on of the absolutely unsafest areas in the city. Again, in the last couple of months there have been quite a few shootings directly related to events or patrons of T-Town. Prostitution on the strip is now rampant. It's not the same social scene it was when we all paraded down it in 94 & 95...

Sharpstown is a straight up S**thole.

So anyone who shops at Sharpstown mall is an idiot and if you get shot there then it's your fault? Geez man. It isn't a war zone and it should be a safe public place.

I hope he'll be ok, but as for Sharpstown its getting rougher and rougher. The car he had was sick. It had been customized with red candy paint, rims, he also had his last name on his seats. But you have to be careful wherever you go.

    Richmond tally this weekend:

    Legends burns down.

3 people shot outside of T-Town.

Cops shoot at guy beating chick in Sam's Boat parking after he tries running cops over.

    It goes on & on...

Richmond actually used to be a fun place to go drink. I don't know what the hell happened, but a few years ago all the thugz moved in started cruising, shooting, etc.

It's beginning to happen in the "revitalized" dtown too. Thugz moving on in...

Agreed on Richmond. It used to be much better. It sucks because I live pretty close, and I used to go down there as a kid, and now that I'm old enough to drink and hang out down there, it sucks!
