Tony Dutt is also Van Exels agent. One of his clients might end up on the Rockets

    Finley(although impossible)> DA(still young)> Van Excel (too old, too short)> Sprewell(too old, too bad)
But still, I prefer Earl Watson if we can trade him. It's a pure PG and his assist-per-48 mins is pretty high.

DA would be a great pickup. But I wouldn't dump Wesley unless we can bring in another upgrade. I mean, Wes is a rock. He's incredibly durable and played some crazy minutes last year. He's just the right compliment for DA who has been injury prone the last few years.

DA can backup Wes and T-mac. Or start DA, then sub Wes for him, and then bring DA back in when T-mac needs a breather. Barry can fill in the rest, and be the designated sharpshooter for certain matchups.

What is max number of years you can sign someone with the LLE again? 1? 3? 5?

If we get DA, I think we'd have an explosive lineup with scorers off the bench that can contribute:

    Sura Wesley Head
    DA Barry Wesley Head
    McGrady Barry Swift Bowen
    Swift Howard
    Yao Mutombo

Or i think if we also picked up Finley or Spree, we'd get rid of Wesley.

Really we don't have a penetrating point guard so our offense is predominantly in the half court, but DA would add another slasher ala McGrady and also enough of an outside threat to keep teams honest on the double teams against Yao.

We should keep Wesley. Wesley is the best defender we have in the back court, and as good as JB is, there are times where I'd rather have Wesley in there.

Our biggest priority right now is getting a healthy, effective starting PG, although our options look pretty narrow.

Didn't DA briefly play point 1 season for the Blazers?

Uh, Khan, I think you meant to put James behind Sura at the backup point, not Wes. :) This would be a huge pickup, and for the LLE?? You've gotta be kidding! What a hell of a couple of offseasons this has been. Damn! It's been great already this summer, but getting DA would be mindblowing.

I'm wondering if I'm having flashbacks from the late '60's. This can't be possible! ;)

The profile says he's 6' 5". That would make him a perfect compliment to Wesley who has been playing undersized at the 2 forever. Once we clear the extra weight off of the bench, i.e. Baker, Ward, Moochie, then we're looking at a decent team:

    Sura/James/DA/Barry
    Wesley/DA/Barry/Head
    T-Mac/Bowen/Da/Barry
    Stro/JHoward
    Yao/Deke/Stro

But I think we'll package Baker, Ward, and Moochie along with Wesley, which would make our 2 position look like:

    DA/Barry/Head

and allow us to pick up a PG + SF in the trade. :D

Wesley (and Sura) were not the guys late that they were earlier in the season. It was a shock and I don't think JVG saw it coming either. If Wesley plays fewer minutes he can still contribute a lot to this team.

I really think the deciding factor as to how long Wesley will be here will be Head's ability to D up against taller 2's. I think he will and Wesley will be gone by the trade deadline. But Wesley is not "garbage", or "finished" based on just one month of play. And many here either say that or hint at it.

Wesley was probably JVG's favorite defender throught last season.

Exactly, if we lose Wesley we're taking a big risk. If we get DA, keep him around.

He's very solid, but worn out in the playoffs. Terry is young and super fast, it's a fact that he can blew away Wesley. But that doesn't mean Wesley wasn't a good defender. That was a big reason we got him at the first place.

He likes our players, he wants to join this team and he is willing to give up money to do it. I am a fan of Anderson now. :D

:D :p I like DA too..but there's also Sprewell and Finley. I think Finley will go for money or just go to another good team like Pistons and Heat. We can't get all 3 of these guys. I'd be OK with any 3 of these veterans. What happened to quickness & athleticism though..

Right now our core is Yao, Tmac, and Swift. We need to surround them with good role players. I remember talking like this about Yao, Cat, and Stevie. We have good backups Barry, Bowen, Howard, Mutombo, and James. I really hope we get Finley so we can become an even better team.

The only Rocket that stands a chance of keeping Terry from driving to the basket is Mike James or possibly Head. Wesley is a good defender because he's strong for his size and keep taller players from posting him up, but he doesn't have the foot speed to guard guys like Terry. Both Sura and Wesley were playing hurt at the end of last season.

no way we get rid of wesley. he defends the quicker 2's. that's a priority to keep cheap fouls off of Yao. DA can jump in when the 2G is bigger, like a stackhouse. But they compliment each other. we need both.
