lol, i hear ya. well, no way in hell i'm going to believe that piece of crap lol. but there are a lot people stressed out by the rapid changes in china. so it's pretty easy for them to fall for something that appears to give them spiritual support. i don't blame them, but they are still pretty dumb. that's why, the government is actually supporting the chinese buddhism, confucianism, daoism, so people can fall to real religion not a bunch of crap. i may fall the cult of yao ming though :p

I won't touch this..that's a very volatile statement to infer that the US is on the same level as China. Bad juju.

All right, consider this then. What if the Communist Party took over Hawaii, repeatedly made statements insinuating its independence, refused to reunite with the mainland even with an offer to allow it to perserve its form of government and economy, and got military support from China and the USSR? What would you have the American government do? Knowing that you're from Texas, I know what you'll say; the US should retake Hawaii at all costs.

Bottom line: the Taiwan issue is a holdover from the Cold War, not some nebulous issue of "freedom" or "democracy". It's China vs. USA. Using "freedom" to justify your stance is simply propaganda.

Hm... have you forgotten all of the dictators that the US sponsored during the Cold War? All the democratically elected governments overthrown by the CIA because they were leftist, even to the point of contradicting your own policy on Iran to get this done? Putting into place a puppet government of S. Vietnam, and then assasinating him?

Even if we stick to the current administration, it has invaded Iraq on false pretenses, is apparently killing civilians there, and is torturing people in secret CIA prisons and is holding people indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay.

In a way, the Bush administration's actions are good for us, because he can no longer criticize us with a straight face about human rights.

Believe everything you hear from the sensational spin-masters of the media? If they had their way, America would become a soap opera of falsehoods and innuendos or plain exaggerations of the truth.
Really though, lets drop this. Bring it back full circle to a modern day athlete who is being publicly chastised for his goodwill.

    Navman,
he's right. Yao should pay for being late.
He should BE BANNED FROM THE CHINESE NATIONAL TEAM... FOREVER!!!

so he can be punished by living his HARD AND SHAMEFUL LIFE in AMERICA where he can hurt his ankle by SWIMMING IN MONEY!

    Shame!

outside of a major rockets move, only a thread directly about china (like this one) can get over 130 posts in a span of a few hours. just goes to show you... and SmitingPurpleEm looks ready to tear heads off.

China is calling out Yao for what?

    1- recovering from basketball
(which a- the reason he is in the position he is in today, and b- he has devoted almost every summer til recently to Chinas national team)

    2- The Olympics
(Didnt they beg him to help make a push for Bejing as a host city? if he hadnt done that, then 1 billion people would have killed him for not helping the olympic bid, which i could see where they would come from... he did his country a great service there)

    3- his wedding
(people only get married once (usually... heh heh) so calm the **** down. if he wants to take time off to get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime event, let him! i dont see france getting all bent out of shape because tony went all out for his wedding...)

    4- The Special Olympics
(WTF... are you for real? that is ridiculous. if for nothing else, then this reason could stand on its own. dont you know the importance of this? sure your economy doesnt get a huge boost from it, but i believe it is as important as anything else. if youre gonna call a guy out for helping disabled children establish some self-confidence, then you have some serious problems.)

All this has been written not because I am a concerned Rockets fan (and to be honest, im not completely crazy about yao...) but rather a concerned member of humanity. take a chill pill, china.

So all of the bad stuff that the Americans pulled is a creation of the media, and all the bad stuff that we pull is real. Where did you hear of the bad stuff that we supposedly did, oh that's right, from the media? The western media HATES China and will twist any scrap of news into anti-China propaganda. You can't bash the media for being biased and then use it as justification. It makes you a hypocrite.

They are probably still sleeping right now. ;)

Anyway, from the chinese bball forums, pretty much everyone is saying the chinese sports association should just fxxk off and mind their own business. And to emphasize again this is just what an officer in the chinese sports association pulled out of his azz. It could be that they are having some dissatisfaction against Yao, but by no means this is official and it is just a journal article bashing him. Trash that officer or the Chinese sports association anyway you want, but stop the knee-jerking bashing on the Chinese government please.

China begged Yao to help bid to host the 2008 Olympics? LMAO

China won the bid in the summer of 2001, long before Yao made a name for himself.

See you whine about SmitingPurpleEm ripping your heads off? Heheh dude, you guys ask for it.
