The Chinese government is one of the few entities on Earth that deserves the bashing. They oppress their people for the sake of national interest and proclaim them unpatriotic and ungrateful when they want to broaden their abilities. And also, you can't make the comparison like Kobe ditching the US team because of 'personal reasons' to Yao. This dude is not flaking out and lazily wasting his summer. This guy is out making public appearances to promote China's hosting of the Olympics, he's making selfless appearances to promote the special Olympians, and he's helping create a global awareness of basketball as a unifying force. Don't -ever- compare Kobe's antics to Yao's efforts on behalf of the world and his country.

so in nowadays, a post on the internet revealing someone's personnal opinion on a hot topic can be cited as "news", by AP or ESPN?

Honestly, you don't know, me neither. I would bet that you know less than 1000 Chinese, how could you claim majority, unless there is reliable poll?

lol. How much do you know about china when you make such stereotyped bashing statements? It would have been true 30 years ago, but now it's a completely different story.

Your profile says you live in Pennsylvania. Were you born here in America or are you just here working like Yao?

then Yao is the figure of peace in the world.
he's like Bono uniting all of Ireland.

We're one but we're not the same
we hurt each other and we do it again
pryuen said Yao is the temple
    Yao's the higher law
    yao asked me to enter
and then he made me crawl
and I can't keep holding on to what u got..
    cause all u got
    is hurt..

    one love..

China is expecting too much from this guy. And its sad they only have one superstar that can play over here out of the billion+ people they have.

I am working/studying here. I am not an American. I've been living in America for about 15 years though, so I'm not exactly a FOB.

In comparing Yao to Kobe, I said the difference is that Yao has a track record of integrity and service to his country, and Kobe has a track record of neither. If Yao doesn't keep his track record intact, he will be subject to criticism of this type just like Kobe is. But aside from the track record, which in debate terms is irrelevant anyway, the same justification that is used to criticize American athletes who don't show up is being denied in this case, simply because the country is China. That's the definition of hypocrisy.

bashing my ass. it's one of the best government in the world. i am very proud that they are able to feed 1.3+ billion people. and majority of the people have plenty of the food, clothing, and shelter. average chinese is in a much better condition than average indian under their democracy. no one is perfect ok, there are problems. but their accomplishment out weighs negativities right now.

i am from china. even if you count my relatives, it would number into hundreds. i don't know how can any chinese NOT know more than 1000 people. class size in china is like 60+ students per room. by the time you get out of school. if you don't know hundreds and hundreds of people, then you must be a loner. un-satisfied does NOT equal hate. i believe you said hate the government. true there are. but majority of the people don't HATE the government.

What's the story now? A communist country that has the worst aspects of a capitalistic society? Pollution, corruption, social unrest because of the Chinese gov't's oppresssion of its people. The gov't deserves all the bashing. BTW, I'm criticizing the gov't, not the people/country.

Actually... China is the ultimate capitalistic country, with the good and the bad. Communism is a term that is so casually thrown around that most people have no idea what it truly means.

For a start, China is not a communist country.

Go ask the majority of the Chinese people who live in the countryside whose lands are being confiscated. You sir, on the other hand, are a well off city dweller judging by your English and access to Internet. Am I right?

China is a blend of capitalisitc and communist country. it still has state owned businesses and a healthcare system that is crumbling. The gov't is communist but the country itself is more capitalist.

Actually the Chinese government has done so much more for the average Chinese people in the last 20 years than the US government have done for the Aermicans it is not even funny. I am not saying they are perfect, there is a lot of curruptions in the Chinese government but to just bash the Chinese government like it is the North Korea government is uncalled for.

my family from my mom side all in countryside. and lands were confiscated YEARS ago. besides, back in the days. majority of the farmers didn't own land anyways. only a few rich landlord had land and they rent to poor farmers to exploite them. the government distributed land among the poor farmers so they had they own land. now, policy is more flexible, people can sell their land or join with others to make bigger land to more profitable methods.
