    Actually the restrictions that keep chinese citizens from getting a visa are from other countries' embassies, not from the chinese government.

    e.g. everyone is free to submit an application to the US embassy for a visa to america, but the US embassy will only allow those who they think:1. will not do harm on US soil 2. do not have the intension to emigrate

    getting a passport is easy..... submit an application, along with around 200rmb(about 25 dollars), passport will be ready in 2 weeks(maybe it takes a little too long...)

    Wang Zhizhi is a special case, he is an armyman, has a different type of passport... I do not know the details, but everything becomes more complicated when it involves army things

    not if you're blacklisted by the government as anti-government for example being an active member of chinese democracy movement. also some over-the-hill washed up athletes in the some sports China dominates need pemissions from the government to move to another country. and they usually wont get it without guaranteeing they won't represent the other country to compete against China.
