The MLBPA is far and away the strongest player's union in all of sports. They have the staying power to sit out for an extended period. for that reason the owners have had to tapdance around them. It's sad...but that's the way it is. To cut as many franchises as you said you'd like...which ones do you cut? I'd hate to cut teams that have a history. I personally can think of 3 that would be OK to cut. Florida, Tampa and Montreal. But what about the fourth?
Well, I was in favor of eliminating the Twins... But there recent run has made me renege a bit on that stance. If Milwaukee didn't have their new ballpark, I wouldn't mind seeing them leave. Bud Selig is a horrible owner (who I don't think is the Devil as a Commish, like others do). Supposedly, the Brewers made a big profit from the 2001 season, and then slashed payroll before the 2002 season... Makes me glad we have Drayton... Though I assume you'd be against it, since Mil has baseball "history", with what is it, 3 diff teams? The Brewers will ALWAYS suck. I think the same could be said for KC also. The Royals don't have much history in KC. KC baseball history revolves around the Monarchs, from the Negro League days.
Maybe AOL should do what it does with it's online service. Send free tickets out to everyone in the Atlanta area, and if they like what the see, they can buy more tickets. Let's see... Hawks - Currently in a 3 year playoff drought and is under .500. Thrashers - Point totals of 54 and 60 the last two seasons, and is currently in last place with 8 points. Braves - Playoff chokers for over 10 years and running now. Uhhhh...now that I think about it, GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!
Forget it. If AOL can't sell this team as entertainment, then it is a hopeless venture. AOL has been making loads of money off of a VERY, VERY ****ty product for years. So if they can't convince people to come to Braves games, then all hope is lost.
