Well not that I think it is him, but wouldn't Paul Konerko have a lot to gain by having a huge Beltranian postseason? If there acutally is an AL player that tested positive for steriods and it turns out to be someone from the ChiSox, how soon until they make "Eight Men Out 2"?

Wasn't he the ONLY ONE *NOT* on the take then?

I guess u take the championship how u can
    but
This would be a sh*tty way to get it

Wimpering and begging and hoping another player falls.. . .so we can get it

Next time. . run out on the field with a crowbar and hit them on the knee

Jackson was on the take, he simply didn't play like he was. :)

Can't be Konkerko, he's a first basemen. If its the Chi Sox it'll be either podsednik, rowand, dye and i guess everett (although he's really a dh).

They don't know if Jackson was on the take. The latest I read about suggest that he wasn't on the take. Buck Weaver was also believed to not be on the take as well as a couple of others. Buck Weaver was banned from baseball not for being on the take but for being in a meeting where it was discussed and not turning everyone in.

if this was the NCAA and any Chi Sox player had used steroids, they'd not only forfeit the world series but every other game they played that year...

Oh well this is baseball. You get a ten game vacation for using roids.

Yeah 8 players were on the take, including Shoeless Joe... 1st baseman Chick Gandil was the one that set it up with mobster Arnold Rothstein. As said above Buck Weaver was the only great player of theirs not on the take... if you haven't seen the move you should really get Eight Men Out.

I hope it's not a White Sox player - as a baseball fan, I'd hate to see what that would do to the sport. And it doesn't look like any of their players use steroids.

Just think if it was Dye - man, the MVP of the WS? Basically would mean the whole series was a sham, that baseball was really a mess...just think of what that would do to the sport. Even an Astro's championship next year would be tarnished from this.

If you love baseball, it's the last thing you'd want to see, and I'm a baseball fan before an Astro's fan.

I am not exactly a baseball history buff, so could someone explain to me the significance of Shoeless Joe and what Clemens' mom said?

I believe it was in 1918 or 1919. The CWS had the best team in the league are made it to the World Series against the Reds. Some of the players on the White Sox took money from the mobsters to roll over. After the conspiracy was exposed after the series, 8 Chicago players were kicked out of baseball forever. Shoeless Joe was among those 8. Shoeless Joe Jackson was, at the time, one of, if not the greatest, players in the history of the game.

Right now it is just a rumor with no confirmed source, so none of them are going to bite. We should hear something in a week or two if it is indeed real.

Thanks for the clarification, that must've been a dark moment in the history of sports, period. I can't imagine that happening now though with the player's salaries being what they are.

i doubt it's anyone from the White Sox. Think about it...

if it WAS a player from the White Sox, I bet you anything Selig would try to keep in the closet as much as possible. Last thing he/MLB needs is a World Series winner with a found-steroid user on the team.

Even though it'd be kind of interesting if one of the White Sox players were tested positive, my money would be on Sheff.

People believe Joe Jackson wasn't on the take, because of the fact that he batted something like .571 in the series, and wasn't laying down at all. Although, who knows.
