Yao is just a soft player, period. If he goes to play at Fonde all Summer, maybe he will come back a tougher player. But he has to get the idea that he is a 7 footer, he can dunk on people, he can make people look bad. But he is just too nice for all that. When her gets physical, he does very well. Ewing can only tell him that, Yao has to make the decision to do it.
Part of the reason.... Other annoucers know that this team has revolted against little Hitler. It's a matter of time before this whole thing blows up....
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Yao is burned out on basketball. It looks like he has totally hit the wall both physically and most important mentally. He's dragging when runs up the court and goes after rebounds. He hasn't had the normal 2 to 3 month rest that just about every other NBA player enjoys. Anybody on this board that has ever played any basketball beyond the high school level would know this. The old saying goes " fatigue makes cowards of us all" and thats exactly the way Yao is playing right now. Bottomline is he is just a kid and in a few weeks or so he will eventually come out of it.
Magic Johnson was the last scoring point guard, of course he could pass the ball pretty dam well too. Kareem was the last finesse center who relied on shooting over people rather than overpowering them. Perhaps the 80's Lakers are the model the Rox should be looking at instead of the 90's Rox or Knicks.
Wasn't it Juwan Howard, earlier this season, that was abusing Yao to the point where Yao almost put an elbow upside his head? At the time I was very pleased to see Yao getting pissed off. He needs more of that attitude.
