Conversely I saw a story on the local news awhile back about a guy who stays at home and answers telemarketer calls. The catch is he's on both the MN and US no call lists so when a telemarketer calls he records the call and gets their company's name. He then threatens to sue them for violating the no-call lists but offers to settle for a few hundred or a few thousand depending on how rude the telemarketer was or if they call him a few times. According to him he made over a 100K last year.
My work has a lot of flexibility and often I work at home. The only problem is you never get away from work and often end up working more and later since your work is there and you don't have to worry about getting home late.
Apartment Locating. If you can work a deal with a local company to give you some leads or generate some on your own by either building websites or hiring a webmaster to do so, it can keep you in your office at home. You also need to get a Real Estate license. So it takes some ground work ahead of time. I did it for about a year while I was in college. I was able to pay the bills, but to be honest, working at home by myself was pretty depressing (for me, people person), so I ended up stopping. Still, if you really want to do something from home, this is VERY viable. Most apt. complexes will pay 50-200% of a month's rent to locators. J
I've worked from home for 10 years (like Jeff, technology). Two health care auditors that I worked with this year worked from home (one's company is in Houston and she lives in Albuquerque, the other's company is out of Michigan and she lives in Vermont). The person I worked with from a health care oversight company worked from her home in Denver, the company is in D.C. Two healthcare consultants that I work with work from their homes in Florida.
1) Go to ebay.com 2) Buy low 3) Sell high (don't forget to include outrageous shipping costs) 4) Repeat
Good ideas. Keep them coming. I'd love to be able to make some cash on the side from home. I wish I had studied in school. Let that be a lesson to you kids out there.

Here are two suggestions. One is medical transcription. That business is booming right now. A book that specializes in working from home is called The Work at Home Source Book by Lynie Arden. The 9th edition is the most recent one.
Is that considered a full-time job? Is there training for it? EDIT: I found this site that answers a lot of questions about medical transcription. http://www.mtdaily.com/faq.html
In certain states where Worker's Comp and Tort claims are overflowing, some law firms hire people to sit at home and answer phone calls from potential clients. Basically these potential clients call 1-800-I lost my leg, and you would ask them a bunch of questions from a checklist. I think in certain states you have to be an attorney to do this, but not in all of them.
Actually there are many work from home opportunities and the industry is going to go bigger. For starters try either of the following..... www.alpineaccess.com www.vipdesk.com
