Crazy you know Bruce, I have not seen him in quite a while. #'s had a reunion last saturday and I'm assuming Bruce was there, they brought back the first DJ, who's name escapes me. Anyway I missed it and wish I would have not. Speaking of Bruce, Record Rack was by far the best place in the city for music imo, that was tough to lose. Damn times have really changed. Since you talk to Bruce on occasion, how tough was it for him to shut RR down? I never really discussed it with him
Believe it or not...BRUCE DJ'd last Saturday! Along with Wes, of course. I have yet to make it back to Houston for one of the "reunion" nights. I hope to someday. Mike DeGrace and others usually show up for those and do some work, too. Bruce was super-bummed about closing Record Rack. Times change. He still does some booking at #s, but that's about it.
Wow I can't believe that! Can't believe I missed it, won't miss the next one. Seems like the club is kind of on life support though. I'm glad Bruce is still involved, think he still does Vampire Ball too unless I'm mistaken. Sidenote, something else missed imo, "Timeless Taffeta" You definitely know your stuff, I appreciate the info. Thanks
This is like a long time lurker coming out of nowhere "Fine Young Cannibals concert at Richs!" Anything Box generated 2 pages? Man, when is Cause And Effect coming into town? "Living in Oblivion" is the signature song I attach to any mention of old pre-country 93Q. Maybe there was an old 93Q commercial with that song or something, cuz I can't think of 1 without the other.
Yes, RR was THE place for that music in the 80's earlyto mid 90's, cannot even begin to count the number of times I got UK imports there on Fridays. Ahhh, good, no GREAT times! And I recall Bruce saying when it closed that "it's hard to compete w/free!" So true!
I was there with ya. I still remember Bruce knowing us so well he moved us to the front of the line for the Morrissey CD signing. Sitting in line from 2am 'till like 4PM living on No Doze and not knowing we would be moved up, what a day. I also still have around 5 or 6 of Wes's Numbers Club CD's. They are like GOLD to me!
Wow, some of those bands you guys are mentioning are bringing back some memories of living at Record Rack on S. Shepherd and the Sound Waves around the corner from it on Westheimer. I was a big fan of Industrial stuff at one point. Lots of great groups in this thread.
was this like the head on the door tour or something? - 85ish? i remember a really good local show there w/ deschmog, mike gunn and painteens (or was it sprawl?) - summer 92ish. others i can remember - ride and pale saints spiritualized stereolab
At one point?! Please tell me you still have an appreciation for Industrial? Mad respect DOD. I would have never guessed. The things you learn on this board, I'm not sure why but sometimes it surprises me. Thought I was the only freak on here
Yep...1985. Bruce (among others) used to claim Bob Smith was trippin' pretty hard on LSD. I have no confirmation on this, of course. EDIT: It was the Head on the Door tour.
