aside from the non-bball reasons, let's not forget that Francis needs to dominate the ball, and really so does TMac to run the offense. steve wouldn't work on this team so well
Francis would be a good addition for this team if TMAC could teach him how to not turn the ball over so much. We could certainly use his ability to drive to the hole and kick out to TMAC, as someone mentioned above. But I could really see Francis as TMac's whipping boy...you know...kinda like MJ and Scottie, but, well you get the obvious. Don't get me wrong, I love Francis as a player (and I can admit he needs to grow up a bit), and I'll defend him till the end on this forum, but I could see him giving in a little bit to TMAC, and thus becoming TMAC's sidekick. A lot of you will probably say that Francis will never accept being someone's sidekick, but I'm not so sure.
i agree with you...he should look in the mirror and decide the path of his career now. He has two choices: A. he can finish his career and be remembered as an undersized trouble maker. Then five years later be forgotten in history. OR B. somehow come back to the rockets with a humbled attitude and help Tmac and Yao. then be a very important piece to the rockets grabbing 2 or 3 championships
I would do that trade in a heart beat. If Van Gundy doesn't like it? Fine, get a new coach. A player of that caliber for names like swift and alston is worth doing.
No, I really don't want him back. I do not mean to flame you, or to give you the impression that I am, but Francis is not Isiah Thomas. You will not get to the Big Show with him at the reins. If T-Mac turns into Grant Hill, then we are in trouble because T-Mac is a max player, but we will get through this. If we don't, we will hopefully wind up with a high pick. Who remembers how much fun it was watching Steve Francis' face as he got the top pick for Houston? Now just imagine T-Mac in the same picture. -P1st, S2nd
No way...it's not this Rockets roster lacks talent, its just that 98% of our talent is sitting on the sidelines...
Well I certainly was hinting at that...the only difference is the "THINKS" he is a great player part. Tmac IS a great player...Francis THINKS he is.... I wish Stevie well, in Atlanta.......isn't that where the Super bowl is?
How about something similar to this, with a possible throw in somewhere to fix slight salary differences or a pick somewhere to sweeten the pot for Orlando. Houston gives: Wesley Swift or Howard Sura Anderson LAC gives: Mobley Rebraca Ewing Orlando gives: Francis Morris Outlaw Diener Houston gets: Diener Mobley Rebraca Ewing LAC gets: Francis Morris Outlaw Orlando gets: Wesley Swift or Howar Sura
Hate to do this three times in one night, but man ... Your post advocates a (*) trade ( ) FA signing ( ) draft ( ) personnel change ( ) game strategy change in order to solve the Rockets' problems. Your idea will not work. Here is why it won't work. (One or more of the following may apply to your particular idea, and it may have other flaws influenced by recent league rule changes). [x] It will create problems for us offensively [x] It will make our defense weaker [x] Team chemistry will be fractured as a result [ ] We can't afford it [x] The other team(s) would never agree to it [ ] The NBA would never allow it to happen [x] It would be unpopular with the fans [x] Requires us to give up too much [ ] We already have enough talent/depth at that position [ ] That player would never agree to such a deal [ ] Our team owner would never pay for it [x] This does not help us in the long run Specifically, your plan fails to account for [ ] NBA league rules expressly prohibiting it [ ] Salary cap limitations [ ] Lack of depth/options on the trade/FA market at that position [ ] Known limitations of our roster players [x] Our team's identity and game strategy [x] Lack of rebounding [x] Lack of offensive production [ ] Need for a true point guard [x] Lack of a dependable 3rd scoring option [ ] Lack of defensive ability [x] Lack of inside/low post presence [ ] Lack of perimeter shooting [ ] Loss of athleticism [ ] Player's history of excessive ball-hogging [x] Inconsistency in the production of player(s) involved [ ] History of injury problems [x] Poor leadership qualities [ ] Depletion of youth on the roster [x] Lack of league/playoff experience [ ] Attitude and personality problems with player(s) involved [ ] The need to add more cash to Les Alexander's wallet [ ] Overblown media hype [x] Poor matchups with potential playoff opponents [ ] Poor depth of next year's draft pool [ ] The excessive conservatism of our front office And the following philosophical objections may also apply: [ ] Ideas similar to yours are easy to come up with, yet have never worked in the past [ ] You can't win a championship without good defense [x] You can't win a championship without dependable offensive options [x] You can't build a successful team without strong chemistry [x] We only have a limited amount of time to build around our superstars [ ] Too many long-term contracts hurt you in the long run [x] It's a dumb idea to attempt to rebuild a team in the middle of the season [ ] Players should be allowed to play to their own strengths [ ] Feel-good measures do nothing to solve the problem [x] Doing it this way doesn't make us strong enough [ ] Tanking is for losers, and results in a losing culture that we may never recover from Furthermore, this is what I think about you: [ ] Sorry dude, but I don't think it would work.
