DanHiggsBeard is looking at the past out his ass. The Texans were close to desperate to add a running back that could beat out Wells. Projecting success for running backs is about the hardest evaluation you can make in pro football so you have to take a few of them to get one good one. Did anyone outside of football scouting even know who Dominic Davis was? No. I know I'm in the minority but to me a solid Davis, a healthy speed back in Hollings and a more experienced power back in Wells is a pretty good set of running backs. Maybe not Minnesota but solid.
Here's a thought: Indinapolis may not be able to afford Edge since they are paying Harrison, Manning and have a desperate need for more defense. Maybe they trade him to Miami for a high#1 if he agreees to a deal beforehand.
I've heard reports that Porter laughed the Raider's initial offer, and another report there is little chance he is leaving Oakland, So i have no idea what's really.
It use to p**s me off the some people seem compelled to find something to b**** about no matter the circumstances, but now it just sort of amuses me mostly. Can anybody name a team with 100% draft success? It simply doesn't happen. I also dare anybody to tell me that they have a colaberative, systematic grading system that would enable them to make detailed analysis about a players potential. I guess it provides some sort of ego gratification for people to believe that they are capable of making rational draft decisions, even if they watched 2000 hours of college football on ESPN gameplan. I imagine that players like Tony Hollings don't get drafted specifically based on the number of yards they ran or whatever, but instead on more abstract attributes, like quickness and the ability to find the right hole. Watching Hollings, I can understand what the Texans saw in him when he turns the corner on the outside. Clearly drafting him was a risk based on the lack of a track record, and he has definately had his share of problems, but even if he never rushes for another yard, to suggest that this pick was a travesty is silly. Go through the past drafts. Every team has made picks that look stupid in hindsight. Accept reality. Nobody's ever going to shoot 100% from the field in basketball, nobody's ever going to hit a homerun even 1/3 of the times that they come to the plate and no NFL team will ever draft the best player with every draft pick.
but this is NOT a matter of hindsight. The Hollings pick was horrible from the beginning, and I've always said so. I will eat crow if he gets more than 1,500 yards in his entire career.
(opened the door ... sat down ... put on seat belt ... turned the engine) You think Babin will not be a good player ... or will never have the results to warrant being selected that early in the draft?
If that report is true then the Raiders will have nothing in their secondary. John Clayton said they will let Woodson walk so I guess they will just try to outscore everyone.
The point was made that many people--including most NFL scouts--thought the Hollings pick was a good one in the beginning. Whether he gets more than 1500 yards in his career or not, that doesn't change anything. The fact that YOU didn't think so doesn't mean a damn thing, or make the pick a poor one. Now, if your picks were always more accurate than that of NFL scouts and executives, then something might have to be done...then again, you'd have a job out there if that were the case.
D.H.B. I disagree with you about the Babin pick but I agree with you on the Tony Hollings pick. When he was healthy in the preseason he really didnt show much. He can't run between the tackles and very rarely did he make the first defender miss. Unless I see major improvement in 2005 I think he and Joppuru will be considered as busts. As far as Babin I think you have to give him some more time at OLB. He may never be a Kevin Greene type but I think he will be a decent player.
Yeah the Secondary would be absolute ****, We'd have the cap room to go after a guy like Surtain, but still that's only 1 piece out of a needed 4 piece set.
You don't appear to be easily impressed. I believe we can possibly package a trade using Tony Hollings and teams would jump on it. He's 3 years removed from surgery and has virtually no wear on him. It may turn out to be quite an asset. I think you should be patient with Babins. I'm pretty picky on the defensive side of the ball, but feel pretty good about Babins. He's a high energy OLB that will continue to improve in the pass rush. Don't get me started on Pitts.
