[I liked the trade on draft day, and I LOVE it now![/QUOTE] Ditto to the max. I would give it a couple of years though to grade Gay. Hell, a lot on this board were trashing Yao the first couple of years, too slow, crappy footwork, yah dah yah dah. Even Head had a difficult first year, and now he has hit threes in 30 thrity something consecutive games. Who saw that coming last year?
No offense, but there is no comparison between Yao and Rudy Gay. maybe you forgot the 3 blocks on Shaq, the Shanghai shake,...?
I was only comparing them as new rooks coming into the league, not their skills, and that you have to give them a couple of years to get a handle on the NBA game, that's all. Notice I threw Head in the comparison also.
A "glue guy" who can turn it on if needed, do the dirty work, be the energy guy, make the 3s. That's the type of player a team needs next to 2 superstars. That's what we got in Battier. It was a great trade. Molding a "possible/potential" in maybe a future star? That's for someone else to do. Not this team. It's been said that Gay was not going to be picked by the Rockets no matter what so it's not even a value trade speculation at this point. I wish the best for the rookie but he isn't a Rocket and likely will never be. I am routing for our guys. Novak and Billy needs to step it up and get some playing time. JL3 is getting time now. Wheres Novak and Billy???
You have to give Rudy 3 or 4 years to fully determine his value. Remember Kobe(I'm not saying Gay is the next Kobe) didn't do $h!t his 1st 3 years in the league. However, even if Gay becomes the next Kobe, I think I'd still take Battier.
