Hmmm...never played pencil break. I probably would have sucked at it like every other one of those games. Some of my favorites were wall ball and four square. None of that bus stop or black magic crap, either, just strait up old school four square. We also played that game where you put your hands, palms up, underneath the other kid's hand, palms down, and tried to hit the other kid's hand. I think we called it slaps. We also had another version of thumps where the other kid would hold out his hands, palm up, and you slapped his palms as hard as possible. First person to give up wins...
The kids at my school are obsessed with Four Square. They didn't know what pencil break was, until some jackass father decided to teach them. And I wouldn't let them play slaps in front of me. I didn't care if they played it outside on the playground, or anywhere else - as long as I couldn't see it. That policy applied for knuckles, uncle, indian rug burn, and the other slapping game where you hold each other's hand like a handshake, and take turns slapping the **** out of each other.
I remember pencil break, there was this guy named Maurice who absolutely owned in that game. He could break those regular white Bic pens with his pencil. I remember the kids in my jr. high came up with a game called Pencil-Stick. 2 or more kids would get their own pencil and threading needle. They stuck the needle through the eraser of the pencil and would take turns poking there self in the arm, like a hammer until one of them gave up. Man those could get pretty bloody.
There were some pencils that the lead could be pushed out. We would take a hanger, cut it into about 6" and put it inside. The things we would do to win.
I think that's more of a game for female high school teachers now... Did anybody ever fall for the old "Let's see who can hit the softest" trick.
Google is your friend. http://www.gameskidsplay.net/games/ball_games/foursquare.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_square
i would take a guess and say that they would ask you to play that....and the other person would tap you softly and the other person would lay a huge lick on you and say "AHHH MAN...i guess i lost"
I'm not sure what the rules were at your elite private school, but at the public school that I attended, fingernails were in play.
Wall ball is still alive and kicking. Go to any Rice baseball home game and you'll find dozens of youths playing wall ball. It's actually fairly dangerous to go get refreshments at the concession stand because you have to pass through their game.
I remember B-spike, I didn't think it was that known. Slug bug comes to mind also. Did anyone here play Spotlight? Hide and go seek at night, great summer fun.
Man..., this is sooo cool. I was just talking to my wife about this yesterday. Ahhhh, back in the days.
Hide and go Seek will always have a special place in my heart. It was the spring of '89 when i moved into a new neighborhood. i was a chubby 8th grader at the time. That summer, i made new friends and we played Hide and Go Seek throughout our neighborhood every freakin' night. before i knew it, i had lost 15 lbs before teh start of school the next year all thanks to this game.
In Spotlight, everyone hid and the person that was it had a flashlight. When ever they found a person or one was running back to base you had to shine the flashlight on them and say "Spotlight on (who ever the person was name.)"
