Sounds like 60% of the population in my town.

Everyone is too lazy to work....

Seriously, I've never heard of OCD keeping someone from going to work.

Best of luck to your friend, though.

You are so wrong. My fiances cousin, has ocd and stays with us from time to time. She is 23. She takes 7 hour baths, washes her hands about 1000 times a day, untill her hands bleed!!!. FN bleed, from being rubbed raw. When she stays with us, she goes through about 5 rolls of toliet paper in 24 hrs, from scrubbing her hands. We went through her bag last time she stayed and she had 40 razors, each labled with a body part, and over 100 bars of soap individually sealed in a ziplock bag.

All in all, I believe it.

How did you feel while taking that medicine? any side effect such as mood swing?

Had I made this thread in one of the basketball or sport related section of this BBS then It wouldn't have make any sense but this is the hangout section and any goes here. To answer your question, I was hoping to get some advice from some one who have or had OCD or even doctors who happen to be fans of the rockets.

Then you don't know a damn thing about OCD.

I was a counselor at the Menninger Clinic for four years. I worked on the Adolescent Treatment Program, but I also had a lot of experience with and on the OCD unit as well. OCD can be as crippling as anything you can possibly imagine. And it's not just cleanliness, germaphobe type stuff. When you see someone who LITERALLY believes if they don't touch a doorknob a certain amount of times that they'll go to hell, you'll understand.

When you see someone whose skin is raw due to constantly wiping themselves down with this stuff:

    You'll understand.

To the OP: What does your friends OCD look like? Cleanliness? Germaphobe? Ritualization?

But still, yes: he/she needs medical intervention with referral to a psychiatrist and probably a psychologist. He/she might need group support, exposure therapy, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and possibly medication(s).

Tell your friend to call NAMI Metropolitan Houston (www.namimetrohouston.org), 731-770-4419. This is their help line. They can give them information concerning educational programs and support groups.

Has he ever been to a doctor? My point was, why ask folks where he should go when it is obvious that in a case like this, he should start with his doctor.

I think I have a mild case, I should probably see a doctor about it but I have not. i can control it most of the time but it can be quite frustrating. I can definitely imagine how crippling a stronger case of it could be.

It seemed obvious to me that he was trying to see if anyone had had experience with OCD and knew of specialists in the area that they could recommend. A lot of people post here, seems like there would be a pretty good chance.

Obviously there are better places to ask, but for all we know he may have looked for advise there as well and is just covering all his bases. I don't see any reason to make an issue out of it.

Admittedly, I know what it is, and I've seen shows about people with it, but there is no possible way that I could understand the psychology of someone with it.

I didn't mean to come across as a dick, and I apologize if I did. Perhaps I read too much into it, but your post struck me as one of those "suck it up and deal with it" attitudes that so many people (wrongly) have toward mental illness.

    OP, go here: http://www.houstonocdprogram.com/
Due to some restructuring at Menninger, they closed down their OCD program in 2008. The docs and social workers on that unit began the program at the above link as a result of Menninger closing that unit down. I worked with several of these people when I worked at Menninger and they are all excellent.
