because that's the reason you frequent college SPORTS threads... the academic aspects. gotcha. well that's done wonders for your athletic program.
No way your academic standards are higher than ND, Northwestern or Virginia. There is no excuse why you guys shouldn't be puling some of the smartest (in the 100) football players in TX. You're in a weak confrence thats ripe for the taking, you're campus is beautifull, and you're in the 3rd largest city in america. Whatever you lack in ticket sales would be supplemented by the city's die hard sports community, provided you win. You have sufficient comparative advatages with aTm and Tech. Granted your not in a big time conference but that could change if aTm keeps loosing. I would much rather have Rice the Big 12 than aTm. If some of the alumni like yourself would take some initiative and volunteer your time during recruiting by showing theese young men some of our city's fine earteries (ie The Colorodo, The Mens Club, Caligula) then you could see a marked improvement in talent at Rice.
I'm glad we do too. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...9.htmlstory?coll=orl-sports-headlines-recruit " Here is the Sentinel's take on how the NCAA's 119 Division I-A schools rate in terms of being able to get football players in school. Rankings are 1-10, 10 being toughest and 1 easiest. Ratings were compiled after discussions with conference officials and recruiters across the nation." BIG 12 7 Texas 7 Missouri 5 Colorado 5 Oklahoma 5 Kansas 5 Nebraska 4 Baylor 4 Texas A&M 3 Iowa State 3 Texas Tech 2 Kansas State 2 Oklahoma State
Wrong. We have the toughest incoming standards of all 119 IA football schools, ranking a perfect 10 (see link below) in terms of most difficult standards to get into school. Lots of interesting rankings to me - Wake Forest, Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Army and Navy are next after us with 9's (Duke, SMU, Tulane, UCLA and Air Force are the only 8's). Virginia came in at a pretty low score of 6. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...9.htmlstory?coll=orl-sports-headlines-recruit I did go on a few recruiting trips when I attended Rice. No comment on what went on.
I guess you missed the discussion of the horns' 40% football graduation rate. Use the search function.
According to that there are only 12 Div I schools that are tougher to get into for football players. Granted Rice is the #1 toughest, but being tied for #12 is not so bad.
UT, instead of worrying what others think about it, gives a bunch of people who otherwise may not have had an opportunity at any further education a chance at a brighter future through its football program. Yeah, that's a terrible thing. A few years in college, even for someone who may not ultimately be able to graduate, still will provide critical skills for that individual's future. Focusing on graduation rates of people who might otherise not even go to college seems to indicate more of an interest in reputation than actually helping kids' futures.
Does UT-Austin have an unlimited enrollment program? If not, then they are bumping otherwise qualified applicants by accepting these lesser students. So really while they're helping people who likely have very little appreciation of academics or desire to graduate (see graduation rates...), they're penalizing those who are denied admission for those same spots. It's called opportunity cost.
UT makes a ton more money off the football student-athletes than they cost. It is a big net benefit costwise for the entire student body (taxpayers of Tx too). I am guessing Rice football is a net financial drain (not sure, educated guess). Not hard to argue Rice students would be better off without the football team and let's not forget the average spot going to a Rice student athlete could be filled with a more qualified student who is declined admission.
James Mouton will announce tomorrow. It's a dead heat between Mich. & Texas. In other news: Aggies lose Michael Morgan to USC. The good news is they have signed a pluthera of 3 star JUCO's to fill thier talent deficiencies.
geez every recruit that USC has is 4 or 5 star except 2. and there in on the last 2 or 3 5 star recruits. looks like there going to be the team on top for a long time.
Guys on Insidetexas.com are saying that he is going to Michigan. Mouton should really reconsider (if true). M. Griffin, A. Ross, T. Brown all being Seniors, Mouton has a good chance of starting the next year. Mouton, Chykie Brown, and Beasley would make a pretty sick secondary.
uhh no. Houston>>>>World. you want to fling poo like rice sucks, this and that, and UT this and that, fine, but Houston>owns you. k.
