It'd be great if we could a PG like Kirk Hinrich & an athletic 3 like TT but I know we wouldn't have the pieces to offer to get them. Plus Captain Kirk is extremely expensive. I was just throwin it out there but I do think we should keep our eyes set on Caron Butler, what a player that would be!
i'm not saying there are numbers like that, but it's Morey, so his numbers aren't always obvious, he could possibly figure out that thomas is efficient only when playing with their most veteran rotation and at at least 25 mins a game, or something crazy like that.
I read that Jamal Crawford is also available but do we need another PG? Maybe. I guess you could consider him a vet. The Warriors don't want to give him up for scraps but I really think they could be a great trade partner as someone mentioned. I think Crawford could be good enough and have the height to be placed at SG with either AB or Lowry playing the 1.
I just came back and read through this thread. It looks like RV6 has a huge man crush on Tyrus Thomas.
LOL, not just Tyrus, i just want a player like him alongside Yao....well actually it doesnt even have to be a PF, it could be a swingman also, but i think more important that blocks and rebounds is his length and jumping ability. Like i posted in an earlier post, when healthy we got two, possibly 3 guys who can draw a double team. We have two guys in Brooks and Scola who shouldn't be left open or alone. You put 4 out of those 5 on the floor along with a high flyer that can snatch an alley oop from anywhere, and you got like 10 of the easiest points possible every game. Brooks can always disrupt the D by getting by his man, we can get defenders scrambling pretty easily, we just miss shots, hold the ball too long, or pass too much around the perimeter. If we had the high flyer he'd be able to come off a pick or just sneak in within alley oop range several times a game. It may even counter the fronting problem fairly well...our lobs gets intercepted because they aren't very high, because our guys can't get up there. Landry is a two foot jumper, he can't just get up while cutting or just jogging by the baseline like other guys... that being said, even Carter would be great, he's a lot better at it than Tmac, and tmac may not be able to get up like that anymore.
Dude, Landry can fly, he's got close to or at a 40 inch vertical leap. Thomas is a two legged jumper as well.
Is alley-oop a skill? If Landry does have 40 inch vertical, than we should be seeing more alley-oops. Thomas gets at least one (it seems) every game. He jumps VERY high; it doesn't matter if that pass was bad. Thomas has improved a lot; this playoff showed me he's not close to a bust. Not to mention... Thomas is years younger than Landry... His rookie season, Landry got tons of easy buckets. This past season, he has been making hard shots. Is that a good thing? Sure... but I just don't know what happened to those easy dunks/lay-ins/and1s...
One guy shoots .59% FG for his career and the alley-oop dunker guy shoots .45% for his career. Whats the definition of a hard shot when your talking about Landry? Thomas is an exciting player to watch just like Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley were when they would throw all those alley-oop dunks to Kelvin Cato and the rest of the rockets. I like Tyrus Thomas strictkly for his shotblocking ability, outside of that he doesn't really do anything for me.
But Thomas' length allows him to get to the rim easier without having to gather himself. Landry has to often come down and gain momentum. It's rare when you see him catch it high and just go back up for a dunk. It may not seem like a big deal, but that extra second he takes to come back down is often the difference between having a wide open dunk or having a defender on you who you have to throw 100 pump fakes at. And a large vertical is great and all, but what matters is how high they can reach, Thomas can go up higher than Landry. Reaching higher is also the difference between throwing a lob that may be intercepted by the defense or throwing one over their heads. That's exactly why we can't run plays like that, it's too risky since we can't lob it out of the D's reach. With Thomas you can.
Are you referring to the rumor started by Bill Simmons as a joke? Does anybody seriously believe the #1 pick is going to be traded for somebody that will let Sterling put it in or suck on it? http://twitter.com/sportsguy33
I'd trade Landry for him. Yeah, he is inconsistent and a bit of knuckle head, but he is long and athletic and has a lot of upside. We need size and athleticism bad.
You have to consider the situation they are in...Landry benefits greatly from playing alongside post scoring threats. Thomas doesnt. He has brad miller, who spends a lot of time our int he perimeter, and noah, who's nowhere near the threat yao or scola are.
The Difference Tyrus Thomas's numbers are on a playoff team or a team that is fighting for playoff position the last few years. Swift played for a weaker Grizzlies team
Noah would be nice, but they aren't trading him. hinrich and TT are on the table and could be had, but i'd rather just get mike miller and trade mac for a backup 5 and a scorer. mike miller corey brewer brian cardinal mark madsen for mac dorsey
Actually, I'd argue that the Grizzlies were nearly as good as the Bulls at the time, the Bulls are just in the considerably weaker Eastern Conference. The Grizzlies are not just in the tough, tough West - they're in the toughest division in basketball.
Believe me, if Morey is thinking "crap, Vince is better than tmac so let's do it!" Then he would have done SOMETHING a while ago. There are PLENTY of things out there that are better than tmac with his situation, among other things. Why would he play this tmac thing out so long and trade him right before his contract is over - the most valuable thing about him this upcoming season? Sounds like a classic Rocket move, but Morey is smarter than that.
I am for the TT deal. The reason being is that we are not a championship calibre team just yet. We are VERY close. Man people think we are missing 2 things, a backup C and a Pg that can run the offense well. I think it's a little more than that. even with our great personnel, I think minor upgrades at back up positions can make a world of difference in the long run. For instance, if we had Noah instead of Hayes, or Thoams instead of Landry, OR BOTH... Our tream would have been better eqiopped to deal with Yao and Deke's injuries this post season. We could have beaten the Lakers last series with those players. I understand that it is difficult to part with players such as Landry or Hayes, however you have to give talent to get talent, with minor exceptions like Ron which was more acquiring talent for nothing, however making a gamble that the personality works out. So forget the fact that Thomas is only a slight improvement to Landry, it is still an improvement none-the-less, and the small things add up.
