I think a "Book Club" Sim would be better..!!?? please explain the book club...how does this... club... work? is there any hazing or club initiations involved in joining? do you do a book report or something for the group? sounds like too much work! is this book club really a fight club?
Rm95: What the hell does exercise have to do with it? Hell, I recently joined a gym and went on a diet (crash course for Army Basic). Does that mean that I don't have to pay you, but you still have to read it? Since when does exercise have anything to do with reading a damn book??? Lazy b*stard...
Exercise has something to do with me buying the book. My main New Year's Resolution was to lose 25 pounds. To reinforce that resolution, I can't buy a book, DVD, or CD until I do. I haven't bought one in nearly two months, no small feat for someone who used to average at least one a week of each. Shoulda challenged me before the start of the year!
So you're never going to buy another book, DVD, or CD again? Maybe you shoulda thunkof another resolution... or restricted the goal to 7lbs? I have a feeling this is one of those New Year's Resolutions that you're going to have to break.
I would be interested in participating in a CC.net book club. I even have a suggestion for a book by an author currently living in Houston. It's a fiction title, written by Daniel Quinn called Ishmael. The movie Instinct (not Basic Instinct ) is based on a lot of the conversations that happen in Ishmael. And for those who enjoy it, Daniel Quinn has about 5 other books that are quite similar. The next book after Ishmael is The Story of B. Don't worry it's not a biography about me, but it is why I go by B on CCnet. I might be able to talk to the author and see if I can get a good discount on 20 books or more if this is the book we pick. Another good thing about this title is that it's a quick and easy read (less than 300 pages and big text), and there is a ton we could talk about after reading it (hence one of the benefits of a book club). B
the first rule of book club is you dont talk about book club. the second rule of book club is that you dont talk about book club. the third rule of book club is if this is is your first time at book club you must read a book. the fourth rule of book is if the book goes limp, gets boring and taps out, the book reading is over. with that said i nominate the chior boys by i think joseph waumbaugh? its about a bunch of cops from the 50s-60s...? read it many years ago and thought id like to read it again...
No way treeman, I've gone this far. I've lost 7 lbs already, and I've really only recently really started trying. It should be at the library soon anyway.
Treeman: I thought that people could propose 5-6 books, and then everyone could vote on which one we want to try. I've been waiting for more proposals before setting up a poll. Doesn't really bother me if people don't read. As long as 4-5 people with different opinions read the book, we can have an interesting thread .
Any limitations on current vs noncurrent books? One book that I would suggest is The Name Of The Rose, an incredible book by Umberto Eco. It can be read without too much thought as a murder mystery but the book really explores the meaning of truth in both historical and philospohical contexts. This kind of book seems ideal for discussion purposes... Btw rH, great call on Maus. My fiancee introduced me to it and it really is incredible.
dylan: The Name of the Rose is an excellent book. But... umm... I don't want the book club to consist of you, me, and puedlfor in a month .
Redwall... Jeff, if you haven't red the Redwall series, you have missed out tremendously. Or, for Treeman, The Glory by Herman Wouk.
At the rate were going, this thread will end up a novel. come on guys, someone tell me what to start reading !
