I might look from afar, depending on what progresses.

I do not, however, think that Freak and Manny should be allowed, otherwise you might get a book by the name of Pour Some Sugar on Me: Def Leppard's Sweet Success which would really, really suck.

Here's my picks from this weeks NY Times paperback bestseller's list:

Fiction -- "Girl with the Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier. In 17th century Delft, a servant girl is hired to work in the Vermeer household.

Nonfiction -- "Nothing Like it in the World" by Stephen E. Ambrose. The story of those who built the transcontinental railroad.

    Any other suggestions?

I deleted my past post. What a wierd Friday afternoon mood. Good idea, Haven. Let's keep the books slightly on the popular level, so they're a break for those who have too much rrquired reading.

How about reading the first of a series of books? That way, if you like the first one, you have five more books to read. If not, move on to another book........

    Your thoughts?

I nominate Mucho Mojo by Joe R. Lansdale...it's a quirky type of suspense novel by an East Texas author.

Haven't read it, but I'm reading The Two-Bear Mambo by him.

    I'm in...

Although, there are holes here. Particularly in enforcement. Book clubs are traditionally enforced by the "if you haven't read it, then you will be ridiculed" rule. Here, everyone just ducks questions and/or ignores the thread.

Also, how the heck can you get a consensus on what book to read? It's easy when a dozen or so people meet in a physical setting, but it would seem impossible in this one... Is this going to be a dictatorship or a democracy?

That said, I'm running out of good junk to read and am up for suggestions. I'm in, if our boy haven can figure out a way to make it work.

BTW Rm95, this is a separate deal...

I know treeman...bear with me. I'm exercising like crazy, and when I lose 18 more pounds, I can buy that book (or you can convince RM95's Girl to buy it for me!!).
