No, I meant they really open up the nostrils to where I can breathe much more easily.

I have had really bad allergies/trouble breathing through my nose for as long as I can remember. Every morning I wake up and my nose is stuffy, or I have to sneeze a lot, etc. My parents were not big on going to the doctor when I was young, so when I moved up to NYC for a job in 2008, I decided to go see an ENT. The ENT told me my nose was fine, but to go see an allergist. I went to the allergist and learned I was pretty much allergic to everything (dust mites, pollens, ragweeds, trees, dogs, cats, etc.). He gave me some samples of pills and nasal sprays, I started using a neti pot, nothing worked. I started getting weekly allergy shots and did that for about a year, at some point getting them once a month.

After a year when I still felt the same, the allergist referred me to another ENT. The ENT said I had a slightly deviated septum and enlarged/swollen turbinates. He said he didnt think I needed surgery, but since everything else prior had failed, that it was up to me to have the surgery. I decided to do it since I was pretty miserable. I had the surgery in September '09, took off of work for over a week. Post op was pretty rough, had blood/misc. junk coming out of my nose consistently for a few days, had to change the bandages twice a day or so and icing my face twice a day. Don't remember the cost, but I believe total came out to under $1K with good insurance from my job.

Went back to the doc a few more times and he said everything was healing fine and looking normal. 1 year and 4 months later, I still feel like I have some issues breathing out of my left nostril on a consistent basis. I moved back to TX a few months ago and am debating on going and seeing another ENT in Houston. If anyone knows of a good one to see here, let me know.
