Do NOT skip doses. The most frustrating thing about anti-depressants is that when you're on them, you have to finish the course that your doctor recommends. Many people feel after a while that they don't need them and start skipping days, or even abruptly stop altogether. This is probably the worst thing you can do. It will eff you up and probably make your life and that of your loved ones very stressful. Good luck to your friend! So long as he stays with the program he will hopefully be fine.

b/c i had access to them and i wasnt very smart - it was purely recreational - this was when i was like 17-18.

come on now, there is plenty of evidence of zoloft abuse/addiction potential.

its not unique at all. there is plenty of evidence to back up my own experiences w/ zoloft. and "high" is a subjective term which i never actually used. it is more like speed than any kind of "high".

thanks for the tip. i've been going the, um, *natural herb* route for awhile now, but it's good to know that zoloft isn't as "hard" as some of the others.

Please. Show it. And make sure it isn't something from the Narconon/Scientology. Hopefully I don't need to demonstrate that they are complete wackos.

With respect to the word "high", you said it reminded you of several cups of coffee and followed by smoking mar1juana. I'm pretty sure anybody who consumed that combination would describe themselves as "high". Or would you like to back peddle on your description?

Then you'll have no problem finding me a clear, double blind documented study showing it to be the case. Or at least maybe you can find lurid stories of Zoloft junkies crushing pills and snorting lines, and giving BJ's to fat old men to pay for the next fix? Anything that is at all documented would be grand.

I could save you the time and let you know that there isn't anything credible and documented whatsoever, but you seem to want to bang your head against the wall so show me this "plenty of evidence".

What do you mean you had access to them?

Were you not prescribed it and decided to take it anyways? In that case its impossible for it to make you feel good, SSRIs take 2 weeks to take effect, actually its more like a month.

SSRIs aren't anything like normal happy pills like amphetamines , where you pop one in and you feel really good. You gradually start and work your way up, it is impossible for you to feel any effect under 2wks. It works by inhibitting the serotonin pathways which isn't something that happens all of a sudden. And if it was your first time, you must have been pretty sick.

First time SSRI users start on half the dose for the first 4 days, because they actually CAUSE DEPRESSION in the beginning.

I'm not trying to call you a liar, its just that your story doesn't make sense.

i had a friend who was prescribed them and hated them so he gave them away to his friends who were stupid enough to gobble them up for recreational purposes. i guess i should also state that we were usually smoking pot at the same time - but the combined effect was much stronger than just pot.

    nope.

yes you are. i related a personal experience i had w/ the stuff and you are saying i didnt have it.

that probably has more to do w/ you than me.

ive actually described it as more akin to taking speed and i will not backpeddle on that description at all.

not quite that lurid, but scary none the less.

so here are people who have experience w/ zoloft and say its addictive for them. that doesnt mean its addictive for everyone, but like most substances, certain people will be more vulnerable to becoming addicted.

and back to my original post on page 2 - while prescription pills can definitely help some people, we as a society are way over medicated. something like 10% of americans are now using prescription pills (not talking about allergy medicine). too many people these days turn to them as a first resort rather than a last.

if zoloft is so safe than why is it recommended that you not quit cold turkey - you are supposed to lessen your dosage to ween yourself off it - that means that your body has built up an 'addiction' if you will, to the drug and stopping cold could be very bad. coming off it too quick can lead to increased risk of suicide.

    Nope. Not what you said.

I'm enjoying your standard of evidence. I've got a movie to show you on the dangers of mar1juana. I'm sure it will shock and amaze you. I mean, in the movie, they said that mar1juana will make you kill people so it must be true, right? Can we now all agree that mar1juana is the devil weed and will lead you to a life of sin, on the basis of some random unsubstantiated testimonial evidence?

I wonder if you will apply the same standard of "evidence" in other aspects of your life. For instance, I read on the internet someone talking about their experience as a middle aged black woman. Based on testimonial evidence, would you go to the mat to defend the truth that baylorbear09 is an African-American middle aged woman? I mean, he said it on teh internetz!

The same rules for tapering discontinuation apply to blood pressure drugs and postmenopausal hormone therapy. Are those people "addicts" in your particular unique definition of the word? Because no doctor or addiction expert would say such a thing.
