Okay fellas I am starting off brand new...gonna get a playstation and I am going to do the toys r us buy 2 get one free deal. I am definitely going to get Madden 2003 and GTA Vice City...but what about the third game? Any recommendations? I want something that won't play out and get tired too quickly...I need some longevity from these games as these will be the main three games I will play while I am away in Africa. I would get NBA 2K3, but I want to wait and get next year's version so that I can get the Rockets in their new digs. All about longevity!
Kingdom Hearts is a pretty cool game. The game isn't very long though. It does have 3 secret bosses and some secret weapons, though. And a secret ending. Haven't played BloodRayne, but it looks pretty cool. If you like RPGs, Final Fantasy X is pretty long and has plenty of side quests. However, its been out for a while. I probably won't buy this game since I have plans on buying other games, but I'll probably play it at my friends house. That's what friends are for, right?
Vice City Rocks. I got a copy yesterday by sweet talking the cashieer at ????? (I can't remember the name of the store but it's the video game store inside hollywood video on 290). I sent the wife off with the kids and got a couple hours in and played late into the night. The motorcycles are a nice touch and the police are much more agressive. I've only scratched the surface but I'd give it 5 stars.
Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry (3d person action-adventure), SSX Tricky (snowboarding), Medal of Honor Frontline (1st per. shooter) are consensus great games for PS2 that me and pretty much everybody else has enjoyed throughly, though the replay value isn't all that high, particularly for MOH, although ssx keeps you busy for a while. Gran Turismo 3 is also very fun, I've poured tons and tons of hours into that, probably the best drving game out there even though its been out for a year and a half.
Entertainment Weekly has a good review of this game in their latest issue. They loved it. My buds tell me this will be available for PC in a couple of months but I've seen no mention of that anywhere.
vice city kicks ass i rented at blockbuster best game out for ps2 i just hope i dont beat it real fast cause iv already beat every game i have and for the guy who needs to no what third game to get, metal gear solid 2 played it through twice the game is awsome also buy the first one two u can prob. get it for very cheap at a game store.
I hope this comes out on the PC. I hate the load times on the disk based consoles. I still haven't finished GTA3 so maybe Vice City will be ready for PC's at that time. That last island on GTA3 takes so long to learn...
Somebody told me that the starting location in Vice City is going to be bigger than all three locations in GTA3. I hope this is true...I really dig how big and in depth the various cities/divisions were in GTA3. You really get the impression of different neighborhoods and locales.
I played the game yesterday and it kicks major ass. Yes it's true you work with people on some missions. Let me explain one mission that I got to try. One of the bosses you work for sends you to a garage to pick up a Ruger assault rifle that you'll use to provide cover during a drug deal. When you get the gun, a dude shows up in a white lamborghini and joins you. Both of you provide cover from the rooftops when the deal goes south and then you have to use a dirt bike chase a cuban gane member who trys to get a way with the money on a dirt bike. The voice acting is great, Ray Liotta provides the voice for your character, they have Burt Renyolds playing a texas "bidness" man, and Jenna Jameson plays a pornstar named Candy Suxxx. I can't wait for my copy to get here, I ordered it in the mail. The music is cool too, best game of the year, hands down. I also like the clothes changing feature. Especially when I found the Miami Vice suit and made my guy look like a true proffesional. Speaking of Miami Vice when you're being chased by the cops, sometimes these Miami Vice type undercover cops show up driving a Lamborghini, dressed like Crockett and Tubbs, and using automatic rifles to bring you down.
Metal Gear Solid 2 is a little over-rated. You have to really like that kind of game (silent assasin kind of thing) to own it. The cut-scenes and movies are WAY to long and really cut down on the game play experience. Medal of Honor: Frontline is fun. Kingdom Hearts is amazingly addicting...lots of secrets to find, good replayability to get your character leveled up big time. Gran Turismo3 is fun, but get repetitive. The only thing that keeps you going is to get the new cool cars, and after a while, the driving portion just gets in the way. Plus this game will probably be discounted pretty soon, so I'd get a newer more expensive one for my free game. Tekken 4 is good, but I don't like it as much as Tekken Tag Team. Tiger Woods 2003 is about out and should be fun. I've heard great things about Devil May Cry, but have never actually played it. All the skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing games are a blast, for about 2 weeks, then they just get a little repetitive. I've heard the new PS2 Contra game is a throwback to the original side scrollers, but that it gets repetitive real fast. Games to avoid: (in my opinion) The new Turok game. Silent Hill 2, what a bore any sega sports titles, go for the corresponding EA sports titles Both Lord of the Rings Titles: The Two Towers (Movie Licensed) and The Fellowship of the Ring (Book Licensed). Both are way to short and aren't that much fun. You just sit back eating lembas while everyone else does the work.
twisted metal black. if you don't like the first two than obviously don't buy this but it's as good as those. plus you get to hear "paint it black" every time you play. i agree on metal gear solid 2. it can get tedious if you don't really like that style and actually even if you do. as a whole though it is really really good gaming experience. i'm gonna pick up vice city next weekend probably. i just got hitman 2 for the pc and it's pretty sweet so far. gotta go through that first.
since we're in a gta thread, what the hell is the name of the opera song that they used to play on all the gta3 commercials (and is on the double cleff station). i found a list of the songs double cleff plays but i can't seem to download them at kazaa or find anywhere to play them to figure which one it is. so what is the name of that damn song.
Cool, PS2 games. Something I can safely talk about without getting yelled at (too much anyway) I'm not going to comment on the ones I either haven't played (BloodRayne, GT3, and of the skater/biker games, Tekken 4, Contra: Shattered Soldier) or only played a little bit (Frontline). Metal Gear Solid 2: a tremendous game, but WAY too many cutscenes. The stealth parts are interesting, and the fighting is fun, but Kojima seemed to want to make a movie with some playability, not a game with developmental cutscenes. Twisted Metal Black: Fun smash-em-up, and yes the "Paint it Black" rules it as a theme song. Devil May Cry: GREAT game, but kind of short. I can't believe it started out as a Resident Evil game. Boss fights are difficult enough to be challenging without being impossible. Powerups are fun to execute. Only problem is that it's missions are somewhat short. Plus the sequel is due out in a couple months. Kingdom Hearts: Good replayability with all the secret characters and levelling up. Plot is the usual Final Fantasyish save-the-world plot with Disney and Final Fantasy characters. BTW forget beating the final optional fight for QUITE a while, because he's about as difficult a fight as I've seen. SSX Tricky: Good extras. Lots of fun tracks and the numerous characters and styles make for decent replayability. I'm going to throw in Final Fantasy X. I've played it through 3 times and still love it. Linear, but with LOTS of stuff to do. Boss fights can be VERY difficult (anyone who's played will remember the Yunalesca and Guardian fights). Also has some of the best cutscenes I've seen in a game. So, anyway, there's my .02.
One of my friends works at Best Buy. I'm not sure what their source was...I think it was just a feeling that they had.
