I've never lived there or had an extended stay there, but I've heard good things. They've recently done a complete overhaul of their downtown area with a ton of good restaurants, bars, and clubs. It's a great city for a sports fan as well as they support their teams. Even the Royals. That team has been terrible for two decades and the city still supports them pretty well.
I wouldn't say they "support" the Royals. It's more of an acknowledgment that they exist. They pretty much expect them to suck. That said, it's a nice city. Nothing terribly special about it. They claim to have good bbq. It's ok, I suppose. I've been a bunch of times for work. The Blue Springs area is pretty nice and close to the stadiums. Traffic never seemed to be a problem for me. I've never spent time in the downtown area, though, so I can't speak to that.
