I agree with you about rap actually, I just don't care for today's version of it though there are some old guys like Scarface that I still look out for.
If your mother gave you stuff to make you think you were sick, and had you going through public housing systems and switching schools nearly every year, you'd be pretty ticked too. So maybe you should actually listen to Em's music and be aware of his background before making ignorant statements. Unlike you, Em did NOT have a normal childhood- he had a mother who treated him like dirt and could care less about him, and then she wants to go and sue him just for his money. That's what you call a "low-beat mom"
Not only are these comments extremely juvenile, grammatically incorrect, incendiary, absurd, immature, and just plain laughable, they are also extremely racist. There is no way to argue with someone that childish and downright ignorant. The bottom line is that you are completely incapable of forming a logical argument. You have no other choice but to consistently resort to insults, lies, and prejudicial statements in order to deflect attention from your flawed arguments.
I am not sure how I should respond to the first point, but here it goes. If white kids want to listen to Eminem, it is their freakin right to do as they please!!! They don't have to listen to black rappers if they don't want to listen to them. And this fact, whether it's fact or not (i have my doubts), doesn't make them racist. Besides, the most dominate form of music these days seems to be rap. Not just Eminem but others as well. Rap artist both black and white dominate the pop music scene and MTV as well. Far more than rock music, country, R&B, Bluegrass, heavy Metal. Name the style, rap has more exposure. The reason Eminem gets more air play is because he is a freakin great rapper. To everything else you said, I would say change the market. Get more blacks to watch MTV or listening to mainstream radio. BTW, what is mainstream radio anyway? I assume you mean radio stations that cater to a white audience. Why is that mainstream again? I'll assume again because you believe, and it may be true, that white radio has the almighty dollar locked down. At any rate, if the truth be told, black people listen to black stations for the very same reason white people listen to Eminem -- it is a cultural thing. They want to hear others like themselves. Now, of course, this is a broad generalization, so don't think I don't know there are exceptions. But at the same time, to expect white people to give up their culture because it is an ugly culture is I think unfair on your part -- and this IS what you are saying.
Damn, I thought we were going to argue just about 8 Mile and Eminem in here. Now the Pandora's Box of racism has flung wide open yet again. Here's my opinion on Em, he sucks ass, major ass. Why do I feel that way? Well besides the fusing shock rock with rap to get his name in the papers, he's a hypocrite. The guy is always saying that he doesn't care what people think about him, but I know his public image is very important to him. Case in point, he bought up an entire printing of one magazine in the U.K. to burn them because they put him on the cover wearing a digitally altered pink shirt. This jerk couldn't even recycle them. The latest thing has to be at the Video Music awards when Triumph the insult comic dog tried to interview him. Instead of joking around like lot's of celebs do, he had his crew of security guards surround him and put up a human barrier between him and the puppet while he broke for the bathroom, probably the ladies room. Couldn't he have talked some sh*t to Triumph? No, he had to have his force of ex highschool linebackers cover his butt like the Secret Service covers the President in an assisination attempt. If he's gonna make fun of the pop princesses, I'd believe him more if he didn't hang out backstage with Christina and actually hug her. Also, why did he have to call out Moby. He lives in a perpetual state of highschool where the bully is always picking on the straght A student. What a jerk.
Originally posted by kbm I am not sure how I should respond to the first point, but here it goes. If white kids want to listen to Eminem, it is their freakin right to do as they please!!! They don't have to listen to black rappers if they don't want to listen to them. It doesn't make them racist? What does that make them if not racist? Open minded and enlightened? Please... does this mean black people don't have to like white Euros because it's their right to do as they please? Can black people ignore Eminem now without TJ calling them racist? Can Barkley and Kenny Smith make fun of Euros now? Uh... huh? And this fact, whether it's fact or not (i have my doubts), doesn't make them racist. Besides, the most dominate form of music these days seems to be rap. Not just Eminem but others as well. Rap artist both black and white dominate the pop music scene and MTV as well. Far more than rock music, country, R&B, Bluegrass, heavy Metal. Name the style, rap has more exposure. The reason Eminem gets more air play is because he is a freakin great rapper. Eminem is no more a great rapper than Nelly or JayZ or any of these other top guys currently. They're all very similar in talent IMHO and I think most people other than angry white 18 year olds from Boston would agree. Why does Eminem sell so many more records and get so much play than Nelly? Is it those white kids exercising their rights to not listen to black rappers again? To everything else you said, I would say change the market. Get more blacks to watch MTV or listening to mainstream radio. How would you propose to do that when whites outnumber blacks 6 to 1? More racial dating! YES! Go get those white girls!!!! BTW, what is mainstream radio anyway? Pop I assume you mean radio stations that cater to a white audience. Why is that mainstream again? Pop is mainstream. It's called pop, short for popular which signifies the mainsream tastes in music, particularly for young people. At any rate, if the truth be told, black people listen to black stations for the very same reason white people listen to Eminem -- it is a cultural thing. So how is a black man racist for not liking Eminem if it's a "cultural thing". If it's a "black thing" does that all of a sudden make it racist? If it's a "white thing" then it's okay I guess. Fact is that Eminem gets play on rap stations and mainstream stations while black rappers don't get that mainstream push. That's the issue and that's a large reason why Eminem outsells black rappers. So when ignorant fans talk about "DOMINATING" black rappers, that's laughable. Black rappers can't tap the market that Eminem can because those white kids are exercising their right not to listen to black rappers. You said I made it a black/white thing but clearly that "thing" exists and I again am simply pointing it out.
You guys can turn any ****ing thing into a race argument, can't you? Jesus, give it a freakin' rest already! TJ: Don't call people ignorant, absurd and childish. It makes you sound like an *******. RR: Christ, man, don't take things so personal. You should know TJ's stance by now. Let it go. The rest: Pick another topic for argument. This one is two years older than dirt and we all end up looking like morons. As for the music business, it isn't racist. It is completely ****ED up, but it isn't racist. If it were, rap wouldn't even exist in the first place and there would have never been a Motown or Stax or...oh, nevermind, you get the picture. On the other hand, the argument that blacks are threatened by every white, Chinese or other person who enters what is supposedly their domain shows not only a lack of respect for all the races, but a real true lack of understanding of black people. My guess is that it is generated by people who don't know any black people in the first place. Topics like these are exhasperating. They get incredibly tiresome particularly when the same 10 people line up and fight for 150 or 200 posts over the same **** as last week. Give it a rest.
last time i checked into this thread we were talking about whether people wanted to see Eminem's new movie!
"You better lose yourself in the music, the moment You own it, you better never let it go You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime" Hey who wants drive 90 on I-35? I got the music
while i don't like that particular eminem song, i have to admit that when i hear it on the radio while i'm running, i usually speed up my pace b/c it just gets the juices flowing
Actually, I never said rocket river was a racist for not liking Eminem, but clearly this thread started on that premise, so I'll give you that I should have made myself more clear. Toward the white kids being racist/ not racist, of course they are racist, but just not in the same way you see a racist (this is a wild wild assumption). I would say they are racist but not in a bad way. They gavitate to people who they can identify with, just in the same way black kids do the same. Some of this I really wish would change; I really wish people would be more opened-minded to all types of new experiences, but peer pressure seems to lock this kind of thing up. I do think it is more prevalent (sp) on the black side than on the white side, for whereas I see many white kids who listen to so-called black music w/o fear. I rarely see a black kid listening to say Judas Priest; it just doesn't happen. Black kids seem to have more peer pressure to keep up the fight against anything white. ""Can Barkley and Kenny Smith make fun of Euros now?"" Here I don't think listening to Eminem as opposed to a black rapper is equal to Barkley and Smith making fun of Euros. I also think you are arguing for and against mainstream, which the bbs seems to do all the time, but the problem is connecting it to a racial prejudice (sp). Is Jayz or Nelly as good as Eminem? Maybe, maybe not ... It is according to your personal preference. Does these rappers have the same appeal as Eminem? No. For that reason, Eminem gets the exposure. But before you get all crazy on me for saying this, take a look at golf. Who gets the most exposure there, and why? Of course, it is tiger. You would say that it is because tiger is so far ahead of the other golfers, and you may be right. But of course there are other golfers that play nearly to his level, yet they get zero exposure. So much so that in golf it is tiger and then the other nameless golfers who are trying to catch him. Don't these other golfers have the right to protest against tiger getting all the air time? Well, yes, until you consider that people WANT to see tiger; he is the one that has the mass appeal, sells golf to the world. Does it matter that he is black while the majority of other golfers are white. It would seem that it doesn't. I only bring this up to show that it is not the color of someone's skin, but how much appeal that person has. If, therefore, any other rapper could generate the same or more appeal as Eminem does, then they would be plastered everywhere. I don't buy the notion that exposure makes the person more or less appealing, the person does that by him or her self.
Jeff....you're probably not going to believe me when I say I probably respect you (and for that matter, your wife) more than anyone else here. After all, I always seem to be at odds with you (both). You are...genuinely....a much better person than I'll ever be. That being said, you need to hide your rhetoric a little better. You popped into this thread under the guise of "cooling things off," and trying to make some peace, but you made it very obvious where your feelings stand. You dissed one poster and propped up another. Granted, TJ probably has everyone beat (lately) at being an *******, but RR never hides his love for his color (with the occasional lapses into superiority displays....which some might construe as prejudice). Actually, its a pretty damn smart ploy on your part as I doubt most people catch it. Still, being the devil's advocate that I am, I feel compelled to point it out. If you want to dog people that you feel need it, why not just join the dark and be up front with it?
Eminem roolz. CASE CLOSED. You guys are a riot. Who cares about anything anybody said ever about anything. Eminem is an awesome rapper. And he is awesomely awesome at stuff. And nobody will ever be able to convince me otherwise. And all of you that don't like him, are... how do you say? ah yes... 'haters'.
THANK YOU POLE!!!!!! I'm just glad someone else noticed this thinly veiled attack on my stance. I am not afraid of saying something controversial, as long as I believe in what I'm saying, and have some basis for saying it. I feel like others on this board reject the idea of venturing outside of their politically correct box, for fear of offending someone.
I guess this topic is kind of old but quickly to your Tiger Woods example. I think in a sense he's very much like Eminem. Minorities tuned into golf because Tiger Woods was black, not because he was just a great golfer. Tiger gets golf fans because he's a great player and then gets fans who are minorities just because he's black. If Tiger were white he wouldn't be as big as he is now. The only difference really is that Tiger is clearly the best golfer in the world and Eminem is clearly not the best anything in the world.
"On the other hand, the argument that blacks are threatened by every white, Chinese or other person who enters what is supposedly their domain shows not only a lack of respect for all the races" I think we are all infringing on the Sioux, Seminoles, etc. turf....
Timing - I call this the differences between Zebras and Horses I'm in houston . . . .many fricking horses here. I bet MORE people have seen the one particular Zebra at the zoo and ANY one particular horse in houston because the zebra is exotic.. and different . . and rare Eminem is a Zebra . Tiger Woods is a Zebra . . .is that zebra in the zoo any faster than the fastest horse? maybe maybe not . . This can be measured in a race or something like that .. is it prettier? that is a matter of opinion . . . Tiger woods represents the 1st situation . . . his golfing is measurable Eminem is the second. .a matter of opinion. as someone states Em has many reason to hate his mom THAT DOES NOT MEAN I HAVE TO IDENTIFY WITH IT . . . or like it. . . [sorry No-MAAAAHHHHHH] KBM - I understand what u are saying . .. It is simple math White outnumber blacks 6 - 1 a Mediocre black rapper may appeal to 20% of the population of his racial group Same can be said for a mediocre white rapper. however . .the white rapper's 20% is 6 times as big . . . Hell I listen to an aweful lot of white groups, bands, etc Rocket River
Kim Basinger is in it??????????? She probably plays his mother I bet. So I shouldn't expect her to look LA Confidential hot in this. Britney Murphy is hot, but the thought of her making out with Eminem makes me sick.
