Anyone ever had a lawyer represent them for a traffic ticket?

I've only used a lawyer once, and it did me next to no good. On the court date he came to me and said "the officer showed up, so there's nothing we can do." I ended up with deferred ajudication for 5 months, but was out of the pocket the lawyer fees. I wouldn't do that again.

The best bet for you, in my opinion, is to contact the prosecutor and plead your case, if you don't like what they offer you then contact a lawyer. You should be able to get them down low enough to at least give you the deferred ajudication, especially if you have a fairly clean driving record (less than 1 ticket per year).

If none of that works (which I don't see how it won't/couldn't) then the best you can do is hope to do is take it to court and hope the officer doesn't show up. Even if he does show up you will get an opportunity to speak with the judge and can try one last time to get it reduced, just tell him that you have a clean record, made a one time mistake, and have learned from it, they're usually pretty lenient.

After this is all over, I would say go buy a nice Cobra radar. Mine has saved me numerous times, and I just feel safer overall driving with it. I did get one ticket with it after I passed a cop on the freeway that didn't have his radar on (so my radar didn't go off) and was pulled over because he said he was going 60 and I was going at least 70. Anyway, sorry to get off topic. Good luck!

how much did the radar cost you? and arent those illegal?
also did you get a ticket in the last paragraph? because if he didnt use his radar you can easily beat that in court for lack of evidence and just speculation.

Oh and what law firm did you use lol, so I know not to go with them.

Changing lanes without signaling is illegal in Texas? Really?

I'm in the process with Paul Kubosh right now. First court appearance was in May, got rescheduled to September. I get the feeling it's going to get pushed out again or dismissed when that comes around.

The radar was a Christmas gift, but a good one usually runs $200-$300 at Best Buy, or you could always try Amazon or Ebay. Nope they're not illegal, which makes me wonder why anyone who plans on going 10+ over the speed limit wouldn't have one! I did get a ticket in the last paragraph but couldn't miss work due to tax season, so I just did deferred ajudication.

I wish I could remember who I used, I got the name from my aunt because she said they helped my cousin numerous times. I'll send her an email and see if she can give it to me again.

Avoided jail last night after I missed my court date. Went the next day and waited 4 hours to see a judge. Dismissed the No insurance ticket. Deferred Adjudication (remember, there is no "F" in Adjudication) for 90 days, plus bond and court costs. Beats the hell out of a warrant, jail time, a $217 bond, $90 DPS fees, $465 in fines...

edit: Forgot about this. While waiting to see the judge, HPD brings in a guy in handcuffs. Picture this: Dude in handcuffs, standing with HPD Officer in front of the judge being read his rights. Back of his T-Shirt says "Texas College of Business put me on the path to Success." OUCH.

I've had #2 before. The officer mistakenly gave me a court date on a Saturday. They had to drop it. It was awesome.

I got one years ago. However, it worked. Waited in court and the judge was calling names. Then he got to a string of names (including mine) and my lawyer stood up, representing like 10 names in a row. Every single one of them were dismissed.
Has to be something hokey between the lawyers and the cops or something, but whatever... I got out of my ticket and the cops got their cut of my fee.
