I went in early 2009 - super cold, super fun. Here is an email I sent a friend who later thought about going: This website is the best - you MUST read it: http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/index.html My itinerary was pretty much this: http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/itin/6to10Days/6-TopSights.html, except we did not go to Ephesus (which I wish we did). Here is what we did: * fly into Istanbul - 1/2 day there * overnight train to Ankara - 1 day there * bus to Goreme - 3 days there * fly to Istanbul - 2.5 days there Flights within Turkey on Turkish Airways or Air Pegasus are cheap. Here is a good itinerary for 14 days: if you knock out the time in Istanbul at the end for shopping you get to 11: http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/itin/11to15Days/TwoWeeksInTurkey.html Three notes: * go to Konya, etc., only if you want to check out all the Rumi stuff * people may say "don't worry about Cappodochia". Don't listen to them - it is AWESOME, especially if you want to do outdoorsy stuff (but it's mountainous, not water-related). * I don't know if the itinerary above includes this, but the southwest coast of Turkey is on the Mediterranean Sea, so it may be a great place to relax for a break in the middle of the trip. Also, if you think the itinerary is TOO fast, then, focus on Istanbul, the Mediterranean Coast (since it's June), and the area around Goreme (Cappodochia). Skip Ankara (though one day there will be awesome and it's a big city with stuff to do at night), skip Konya and the Rumi stuff. Check Lonely Planet's guidebook - it was very good as well.
Let's just get it over with. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Mv-KcF3Rkv8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Mv-KcF3Rkv8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> TMBG + Tiny Toons = win.

Bump I'm going to Istanbul in March for about 4 or 5 days, and then will be flying to Hatay, Turkey (on the Syrian border), will cross the border into Syria, check out Damascus, and then on to Beirut. Any other tips?
