Just for clarification, what did "Rockets" have anything to do with the city of San Diego? Thanks in advance.

    Nickname:
Rockets was chosen in a contest due to San Diego's motto, "A City in Motion" in addition it was the manufacturing site of the Atlas rockets, used by NASA.

    LoL, yes I am

I guess I'm still hurting over the period when we had the flying dildo as part of our uni. I mean, you guys gotta admit, that uni was psychologically damaging on a some levels

Sheeessss. would the draft or summer leagues, or better yet, next season please begin now?

If you have a problem with the Rockets as a team name, just get over it. I happen to think it is perfectly suited and does not sound corny or stupid in any way. Names like the Heat, Jazz, Magic, etc are pretty dumb and not something I would be proud of were I a fan of theirs.

Alas, I dislike the Texans as a name. It's hackneyed at best... still, I do like our Houston, NFL team all the same. They were considering some other names I liked better, but can no longer remember what they were. Was Cosmos one of them?

Hey, we were all psychologically damaged by the Flying Dildo and those horrible uniforms. Somehow, we pulled through. How the players managed wearing them is a tribute to either their dense mental facilities or their heroism in the face of, well, whatever the hell those things were. :p

I like it the name of Rockets, is similar to: Astros, Comets. and I like it because Houston have the NASA nearby.

I dont like it the Texans name, its very uncreative, unoriginal.

Its another subject but I dont like the name of the baseball team Washington "Nationals", very bad.

Is there Grizzlies in Memphis? ( I know the franchise start on Vancouver)

It could still be the San Diego Rockets. That truly makes no sense.

I like any name that is a plural and has a different singular form, whereby a member of the team is the singular and the team as a whole is the plural. So TMac is a Rocket and he plays for the Rockets. Team names that don't work so well in this regard: Heat, Magic, and Jazz.

Our football team has a MUCH worse name than does our basketball team. I have no problem with the "rockets" but i would like it if they changed the football team's name. "texans" just doesnt sound right.

Totally Weak, so much so that I root for the Titans instead. Geez, it's so absure...."Live from Houston, Texas, it's the Houston Texans!"

Why don't all freakin teams change their names like that? The L.A. Californians....the NY NY'ers. The Detroit Michigans are playing the San Antonio Texans.

'Astros' is our citys best nickname.

    i like the 'Rockets.'

    i dislike 'Texans.'

i believe the final three choices for our franchise were:

    Texans, Apollos and Stallions.

I'm sorry, but all those suck. I thought Oilers was a great name, but I'm assuming McNair wanted to sever all memory of the citys hate for Bud Adams and start a new era.

    How about:

    The Houston Hungry Heffers

    The Houston Hefty Eaters

The Houston Heavy Breathers (nah.. has that double meaning..)

    The Houston Dietitians

Eh, personally I really like "Houston Rockets".
