I think Ariza will slowly improve his 3pt %. What we need from him is good tight D, some steals, and some boards. The 3s will come. I also love the way he anticipates defensive passes and steps in front of them. Those lead to fast break points.
He can't hit the side of a red barn with a brick bat. This brings back bad memories of his first tenure here.
I still think Ariza is gonna snap out of this eventually. Prior to this season he was a 35% shooter since he started to shoot 3's regularly. Even is you ignore last season as an aberration, he is still shooting 33%. Since his hot start he is only shooting 26.5%, and over this recent 9 game slump of ours he is shooting 21%. Those would seem to be unsustainably bad numbers given his career shooting. There is no reason to think he improved steadily over his career, and then suddenly got worse than ever. Even if he doesn't shoot as well as we had hoped, I think he is still gonna be around 32-33%, which is a number you can handle.
Ok, I have to do it. Ariza will NEVER be able to shoot well from 3pt range for a season as a Rocket ever again. DD
50%? Lol, when was the last time he shot 40%? Every time I look at the box score he's always like 3/11 or 4/12.
Seems like he did, Josh Smith started this season by shooting 50% or below for 25 straight games, and Ariza just broke that amazing record.
At some point, it may be necessary. You can get away with an offensively challenged player in your starting lineup if the other 4 guys on the floor are threats. But the Rockets have Harden, D-Mo, and to lesser extent Howard. And only Harden can create his own shot. I keep waiting for Ariza to come out of this slump, but can we even call it that anymore? He's basically stunk since the first week and a half of the season. That's not a bad stretch. That's a bad year.
