Buzzcut for the summer is the way to go. I usually shave it for the first time in the spring (around SXSW in Austin). Then I give it a couple more swipes throughout the summer. I let it grow wild from around October to March.

I use a #1 on the sides and back and real short on the top. My hair grows so fast that I have to get it cut about once a month.

I have seriously considered shaving my head just for the convenience, but I'm afraid I would end up looking like this guy:

I just got a bald fade for the summer. I love it. Get up and not need to mess with the hair. Always look badass out of the pool. nothing wrong with giving the scalp a tan.

i like a shaved head...unfortunately, i've got this weird widow's peak. shaved heads make people look younger, but i think it has the opposite affect on me...especially when it's just growing back.

Used to have long, beautiful brown hair...until I was 23. Then my hair line started to rise. I decided to shave it. It's been 12 years of free haircuts. I've been going with just the blade for the last couple of years. I love it. Just have to remember to use sunscreen. Nothing worse than burning your entire head. It sucks when it starts to peel...

I've never been accused of anything like being in a gang, even when I had a long goatee or now with a fairly thick beard. No tats or anything.

I started buzzing my hair about two months ago. I keep it at a 3 (the numbers signify an eighth of an inch for you folks who don't know).

I like it. It's much cooler (temp-wise) and saves me money. My hair grows insanely fast so my wife cuts it every Sunday and I never feel/look scruffy. It's funny though- I get colder a lot easier now. I've always loved my A/C slammed below 70 and now I have to grab a blanket if it's too chilly. I don't have to bother with combing it. I do use the Walmart Oil of Olay ripoff that has spf 15 to keep my face from drying out, and I rub it on my scalp now. Burned head sucks.

Back to the OP post- I work in prison medical clinics, and from what I understand, the woodpeckers aren't a racist gang, they're the gang you join if you don't want to -be- in a gang in jail. It's for protection. However, every woodpecker I've seen in jail is white, so they're probably some racist undertones.

Now there's a phrase you don't hear every day.

    Ha! I lol'ed.

Sharing my experiences. Working in prisons has been a real eye-opener. I thought that the gang name 'woodpecker' was funny, but I don't interact with the offenders so I wouldn't tell 'em that.

Oh come on, you saw this coming.

People are suspicious of white guys who shave their heads (who aren't balding) just like black guys with anything other than a short hairstyle.

I have shaved my head to the skin for like 12 years now...mostly as an antidote to male pattern baldness (my choices are Jean-Luc Picard or Frasier Crane...I'll take the former).

When I was first shaving it..I would sometimes get the occasional nazi salute from someone (who I quickly replied to with a one fingered salute of my own).

Now I am clearly old enough that no one mistakes it for a political statement, its groovy...especially in Houston summer.

For those of you trying this and using a blade, remember that the scalp bleeds like a b**** so be careful.

Used to have my summer shave when I was in Htown. Now I like it semi-short, gel it jimmy neutron style.

I've been shaving mine for about a year now. 6 months or so ago I shaved completely for the first time. I've done it several times, but it's a pain in the ass to keep up with every week. It requires about 30 mins in the shower, so usually I'm just lazy and shave every week or so with my electric clippers and no guard.

I get angry at people who arnt going bald and shave their heads. I would give one of my nutts for a full head of hair, and you people shave it for the heck of it!

    just kidding... kinda.

Ha, I know what you mean. I shave mine because I have to, not because I want to.

Chilax. I'll grow it back come the first cold front in like 8 months. If I do happen to go to prison though, it's staying. I will need protection and whatnot.
