he played luther head did he not? which rookie on the rockets did he exactly neglect and let rot on the bench?
He does have some very insightful analysis and speaks very fluently. I also find myself regularly picking up some new nuance of the game when he talks, for example tonight, when Luis Scola drew the charge when setting a pick and rotating his hip into the defender (he had the ball near the 3 pt line). At first, I thought they blew the call, then after Van Gundy explained the call, I was like yeah, you right.
idiotic.....luther head sees a lot of minutes his rookie season. Developing player has not been his strength, because he wanted to win ball games, but that doesn't mean he won't play players who can ball.
hahah and to have those aerobic bicycle machines in the locker room for players to use during half time
i always loved JVG. i personally thought he was a great coach for the rockets. With the squand that he had to work with, he did a pretty damn good job. The guy is incredibly funny as well, a very witty guy, not to mention that he is also a basketball genius. I respect alot and love it when he commentates.
I said this before and I'll say it again. Rick Adelman can't even carry Jeff Van Gundy's jockstrap. JVG >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rick Adelman
Yeeeeah, I wouldn't call my like of JVG a man crush, because to me that implies some sort of desperate guy on guy love wherein the lover passes the lovee a note that says something to the effect of "You wanna get a beer later, maybe talk some sports? Circle yes, no, or maybe!". I mean, yeah I'd spoon with the man, like us bros usually do, but I don't have a man crush on the guy or anything! Seriously though, I liked JVG a lot as a coach and initially was against his being fired, although now I'm glad we have Adelman since he seems to have brought a more relaxed sort of mentality (which is better for our team), coupled with a better offensive scheme (where the offense doesn't have to completely flow thru Yao or Mac to succeed). He has done this without compromising our defensive play, and as good as JVG was as our coach... I really think Adelman is a better fit and more capable of leading us past round 1 and into real title contention. Van Gundy is a great announcer though, isn't he? It's especially nice watching JVG do play-by-play for his former team; it being all the more interesting to have his insight on players he recently coached. I'm sure yall notice that he's now completely different from the way he seemed as the Rockets head coach. As our coach he always seemed so stressed out, gloomy, and tired, but now that he's in the booth he acts like a completely different guy. Not only that, but he's taken to the analyst job like a duck to water, really seperating himself from most of his less booth savy contemporaries. He was a pretty good coach, and maybe he will be again someday, but he succeeds at calling games in a way he never really succeeded at coaching... plus, he no longer seems like he's minutes away from a stress related stroke or aneurism! I hope he enjoys the booth job as much as he seems to, and should he continue to do such a good job I hope he gets promoted to be part of ESPN's primary announcing team.
Bingo. While I loved JVG (I loved watching the Rockets play defense in the JVG era, but couldn't stand the offense lol), I agree with orbb, the grass is always greener on the other side. At least JVG makes a boss commentator. I don't think Adelman would, but he makes a good coach. So we get the best of both worlds. I still like JVG though. Definitely man crush status. But I got nothing against Adelman. He's just gotta get us out of the first round, that's where JVG failed and that's why he was let go.
qft. i absolutely love jvg as a commentator and as a coach. adelman's a good one, too. but they're different. it's like comparing artest and battier. they're both great defenders but in very different ways. i'm pretty sure, though, that we would be a much better team right now under jvg. but i'm also sure that adelman will figure things out and most importantly our core players will be healthy at some point this season.
He's an awesome commentator. Not sure if i'd want him back as coach. With out current lineup, yes... JVG would excel, but he won't put us over the hump as the real title contender.
On Ron Artest Playing on a Bad Ankle "Ron Artest is like a wild animal... he would chew off a leg <just to play>" - JVG This line had me rolling... theSAGE
He is hilarious as a commentator, always honest brutally and tells it how it is, I always enjoy hearing his commentary....a personal favorite....When bonzi wells was doing really well last year, he was calling the game, and said which idiot didn't play this guy(referring to himself) he has afunny dry sense of humor.... The best thing I respect about him is his upbringning. he was never a hot shot player. Went to YAle and transferred out to a smaller school just for basketball PT....that is a risk and impressive belief and commitment to the game,Respect
Im downloading the game which is damn boring loss one without a doubt, the only reason I am still to do so is due to that commentator, JVG.
