I don't hate the job or my team members - I hate the corporate politics. I hate the drama (though lately the drama isn't as good as the good ole BBS). And yet, I find myself refusing to do work even though I've got plenty o' stuff to do - I'm just on mini-strikes most of the day (because of the corporate politics).

But maybe if I got paid more, I'd be a little more productive. :D

project manager.... i'm currently supervising the construction of 2 $5+ million dollar houses. unfortunately, i get to work long hours (60-70 hrs per) including every saturday. paid contract work, so i have to save for taxes myself every month, and my employer only pays for about 1/4 of phone bill, even though 90% of all my calls are work related. nevermind the fact that i put anywhere from 200-300 miles a week on my car (he gives me $125 a month for gas.... about 1/2), and he only pays for 1/2 of my health insurance.

this is why i really hate my job. when all my work-related expenses are accounted for and i put away some extra money for taxes, i'm barely pushing $2000 a month. then of course i have student loans, car payments, food, etc.... thank god i live with my folks, otherwise i'd be sleeping in my car.

like i mentioned earlier, i NEED a pay raise... but my performance has really slipped the past week or so, so now i have little leverage to demand it. but everytime i get chewed out for a mistake, all i keep thinking to myself is "i do NOT get paid nearly enough to put up with all this." he wants me on the phone 24/7, but he doesn't want to foot the bill.... he wants me to drive back and forth between projects and meetings and vendors, but he'll only pay me for about 1/2 of the mileage. i miss a saturday when i work about 5 hours less than a weekday, but he deducts me a full days pay. and forget about vacation and sick leave... i get none (although he did pay me for a one week when i was in europe). clearly i have no retirment package.

hell, let's not forget the fact that for a christmas bonus, he wants to give me the exact same bonus he's giving to my receptionist and office manager.... even though they work about 20 hours less per week than i do and have only been there for 2 months to my 10.

sorry for the rant, but you can probably see why i find it hard to get motivated.... i'm not asking for average pay here (median salary for an experienced project manager is close to $70k), but christ.... at least pay me like a real employee.

^ Your job sounds rough and not surprising as often there are problems working in construction especially if you are only on contract. Of course from your "sex at work thread" it sounds like you get some good perks. ;)

I don't hate my job but I hate that I'm either working 80 hours a week or sitting on my @ss for a week it would be nice if things evened out a little more.

yeah, what really bothers me is he is my employer, and has been for 10 months now, yet he refuses to pay me like one.... obviously it is much cheaper for him to pay me as an independent contractor and save himself matching my taxes every paycheck. although i'm pretty sure you can only be paid contract for 6 months, but oh well.

I can't say I've liked any of my jobs since I graduated college, its more a case of how high my annoyance level is at each.

My job is more or less a means to an end, suffer so I can enjoy myself during my offtime, like going to houston to watch rockets game, only thing that keeps me sane......

I'd leave. I know it would be hard on you financially, but it already seems like it is. There is no excuse for not paying you for your expenses. Hopefully, you've been keeping receipts and mileage so that you can use them for deductions on your income taxes. Either way, you can do better. I was unemployed earlier this year and saw quite a few construction type PM jobs.

Life is too short to work for a**holes.

Get a degree from the University of Pheonix, it'll soon be nothing more than an ornament in your home, but it'll get you through to a better (higher paying) career.

Holy crap, that sound like a **** job alright. Sounds like you are being taken advantage of. I have a rule about not working at a job that actually costs me money to do, if I'm not being reimbursed at 100%. Sounds like you may be losing money working for this idiot.

Time to get the hell out of there.

****, dude - I'm sorry that you are having to deal with that. I don't even want to think how I would be if I had an employer jerking me around like what your boss is doing to you. Hopefully, you can find something better.

Well, I don't hate what I do, but I "extremely dislike" where I do it, which is why I am leaving for a contract to hire opportunity.

The work is fine....the atmosphere not so great.

Spineless management, inter-office bickering, an unbearable noise level in a cubicle environment. Nobody held responsible for anything. 2% raises across the board no matter how well or poorly you do your job.

Since we moved here ( a little over a year ago) I have to wear noise-cancelling headphones hooked up to an 8GB Ipod 8 hours a day just to drown out the screaming, whining, complaining & childish behavior.

I'm leaving the public sector for a contract to potentially hire gig in the private sector. 35% more money, even though I will have to save for my own taxes, buy my own health insurance, etc.

I have no kids, and no bills other than my mortgage. It's a gamble, but life is a gamble. I have to do this now, while I'm still young enough. I start my new day gig on Monday the 26th. Probably will cut my post count way down, but I have to do it. Better to take a chance than to stagnate, have your skills erode and be miserable.

an interesting little subplot to all this is that my boss also happens to be my uncle. wrap your noodle around that one.

this is why you dont work for your family... until you're ready to take it over, of course.

I've worked for two of them. What do you do, what kind of job are you looking for, and what do you want to know?
