Wow an A1 upper with a quad rail? Did you just pull that off of an image search?

Pretty odd combination of parts. A1 uppers went out about 25 years ago.

Also, the Japanese view suicide much differently then we do.. not that it is acceptable over there or anything.. but Japan has had this problem before gun ownership or anything became rampant elsewhere.. its kind of engrained into their culture..

Basically proving that gun ownership, suicide rates, and crime rates are stats that don't have anything to do with each other.

I like Chris Rock's solution. Make all guns legal but charge $1 million per bullet.

so are cigs banned by your standards casey? the MG tax is not cost prohibitive in today's money and probably not insanely excessive relative to the cost of a MG.

also...why does anyone need an AR-15?

a lot of the arguments by the gun nuts are lost on me.

Another thing that would go up would be your life expectancy. On the downside, however, would be your policing costs and insurance costs.

I’m interested in your core values on this issue and to that end I have a question for you. Do you believe that your neighbour should have the right to keep a nuclear bomb in his basement? Bombs don’t kill people, after all. People kill people. I’m using an extreme example for a reason and I assume your answer will be no, but I’m interested in your reasons.

Here’s another question. Do you think there should be no speed limits on the highways? Cars don’t kill people, after all. People kill people. Driving fast is fun, so why shouldn’t everyone have the right to do it? Why should the government take away our right to drive fast? I’m assuming you believe it should but again I’m interested in your reasons.

Casey, do you know where you can get all the guns and ammo you want? The army! Enlist now and go get those bad guys! Your country needs you!

You are right. Thats why 20 years ago they limited the registration of new machine guns in the NFA. This means that all the machine guns that currently availablefor purchase through the 200 dollar tax are one made before 1986. To go back to your poor example that would be similar to their being a limited number of cigarettes out there.

What do you think that would do to cig prices? The price of a M16 in 1986 was 500, now it is around 20,000. I would say that is high compared with actual costs.

Hmm... sounds alot like Kerry. Why don;t you think of your own ideas? The army should would like it if they were the only ones with weapons.

Again, why do you need an M16 or any other type of assault rifle?

I'm to the left of liberal, but I in no way support banning guns. And the main reason is- I don't think the government should have a monopoly on weapons. I think an armed populous does serve as a deterence on tyranny.

    Regulating yes. Banning no.

So the question I have for Casey is- Does he support any level of regulation that limits the types of guns civilians can own? And if so, where does he draw the line?

With this as a starting point, we can probably have a productive discussion. Without it, this entire thread will be "Dems want to take my guns" "No they don't." ad nauseum.

I'd wager that most people here haven't experienced something like Katrina. I didn't, but I had people trying to steal my gas cans after Rita. There were no cops to call, no phone to call them on. Just you, and whoever that is sneaking through your garage.

I'm not saying some people here aren't being paranoid, but try to imagine that feeling of vulnerability before you mock someone who wants 15 rounds in his gun.

As for the thread question... If I had the money, I'd probably try to buy a .50 cal long range rifle. I've fired an AR-50 and seen a couple of Barretts, it might be too much fun to be legal for long. :D

My grandfather/ father have serious gun collections and they are both major liberals -- they have no worries about their hobbies.

If gun ownership has nothing to do with the crime rate then why do you need a gun since you're not preventing any crime? Bah...ha...

Well if its in his basement he would have to blow up his own house to get to me. How did he pay for this bomb? Where did he get the material? What is his delivery system? What does this have to do with anything? Would you prefer your neighbor has a nuclear bomb or a nuclear power plant?

To your car question I think first off your analogy is invalid because you are refering to use not ownership. Use a gun in an unsafe manner and see how long you go to prison for. Secondly highways are public lands. It is not your right to drive on them. In Texas almost all shooting on public lands has been done away with. Most shooting and hunting is done on private land. To turn the question back to you how would you feel if the government started to regulate the car you never take on the highway. Or they told you that even though you only drive it on your own racetrack that you cannot have more than 10 horsepower.

These arguments are old. Michael Moore made the first one in Bowling for Columbine.

The 50 cal is already banned in California. even though it has never been used in a crime.

We should ban guns like most of the other civilized countries have done, and their murder rates are WAY below ours.

If you need a gun to defend yourself, you are a WUSS !!

    ;)
